No surprise attack here. SUP Club is an initiative created by the SUP Bus crew and SUP HQ, and is essentially a series of social events to keep everybody motivated and paddling and having fun. This does not clash with SUP VIC any more than the RPS races. Anything to get us together enjoying the sport has the support of SUP VIC.

Thanks PT , I must turn this machine on more ,and crawl out out from under my rock.

That was the first time I had read anything about The Supclub , I thought that SupVic was the only club in Vic.

Anyway cheers and "may the breeze be aways up your clacker"

There is also BASS SUP operating out of the surf coast.

SUP Club is a very new initiative. Apart from a drinks get together and one or two false starts due to weather and technology, these two races will be the launch.

If people haven't put their paddle away I'd suggest you get down there.
One of the best locations for a paddle and always a well run operation down there.

I hadn't heard from the guys since the first calendar was posted but good to see it's
still going ahead.

Appreciate the clarity there guys.

By way of an update on SUP CLUB.

We are keen paddlers who introduce a lot of people to the sport every year through our daily lessons and tours (SUP HQ. A lot of you know us as 'The SUP BUS' or SUPB St Kilda).

We try to make it to all the Vic based races we can as keen paddlers and support the other businesses getting events on the calendar (props to all, we know what it takes).

We also know that not only is there a fantastic crew of people that follow the race circuit around Victoria and are already keen paddlers, but there are a number of people that come through our school and tours that cannot currently get right into SUP'ing through lack of storage room at home, lack of roof racks for transport and various other reasons.

We hope these social races will allow these people to get involved and be able to join the fun of organized SUP sessions.

We're very much looking forward to getting everyone out there and getting fit through the coming months

Hope you can make it and we'll see you on the water!

The guys at SHQ have been kind enough to let me bring down a new 10'2" PSH Hull Ripper board..

If you're there you can have a test paddle of it yourself.

Just like to say that Bass Sup and SUP Vic pretty much work together in many ways including the safety review committee they are definitely NOT in competition with each, more trying to work hand in hand!

The SUP Bus guys have supported both Bass SUP and SUP Vic extensively and again pretty much work hand in hand with both clubs. Their support has been extensive and much appreciated.

Everyone is working together to progress the sport and options for people in Melbourne and on both coasts including racing and surfing. Many people including DJ, PT Woody etc are members of all 3 and Kristi and I will certainly be going that way once we get some time.

Gives you a wealth of knowledge to tap into on all fronts racing surfing locations etc.

A couple of calls and the coconut wireless will point you in the right direction on any given day.

very true Phill, great to see action and organized activities out on the water!

Just finished paddling the race course, exactly 1km laps. Perfect conditions for it out there this morning, nice and glassy. Looks like we might be getting a little wind for Saturday morning, will definitely make it interesting!

Hope to see everyone out there!

Guys, I was out front of the Seabaths this morning and it is definitely a battle when the wind blows up a bit. But even if if blows a gale in the morning, perhaps we could relocate to the other side of the pier, just inside the breakwater and set a course around the moored yachts. That would be at least a 500m circuit. We'd have to get DJ to square it away with the grumpy fishermen. But I'm sure we can get something going, ie don't be soft.

Love your work PT, we will be there for 9am rego.

Looks like we'll have a bit of wind and scattered showers for the first SUP CLUB social race tomorrow morning. Will see all those brave soles for a 9am rego in front of St Kilda Seabaths tomorrow. Looking forward to it!

SUP CLUB – May Social Race Series, Race #1, Saturday, May 14th

Rain, hail or shine we were keen to be out there. We pretty much had all of the above during the 2 lap social class, and 4 lap race class event. Not only this but paddlers also navigated some solid swell that was coming through St Kilda Pier at the top marker and a 20+ knot headwind at times as they battled to make the turn.

We were stoked at the enthusiasm and dedication shown by the field in the toughest conditions most would have ever paddled in, great job guys!

After a brief skippers meeting huddled in behind the SUP Bus, those brave paddlers that made it out for race 1 of the series navigated one of St Kilda's biggest shore breaks on memory as they fought their way out and around the first marker. From here it was a solid slog for just on a leg and a half of the triangular race circuit in St Kilda Harbour before some great runners allowed a small break if you could get on them with the chop going on out there.

Without a doubt the wave of the day had to go to Paul Nottage who made St Kilda Harbour look like a great Bells Beach swell. He enjoyed it so much in fact that he just about forgot there was a marker to go around and nearly went past it. Great wave mate!

In the end it was Cam Hoskings who came from behind to win the Race Class, while Matt Symonns took out the Social Class. Full results and times below!

Congratulations to everyone who participated, it doesn't get any tougher than that. We hope the conditions are much nicer next Saturday morning for the final race of the May season!

RACE CLASS RESULTS:

1. Cam Hoskings - 33:44
2. Paul Nottage - 34:43
3. Chris Sal - 35:00
4. Jarrad Collar - 43:08
5. Michael Lance - 53:19
6. Jean R Coyne - 54:40
7. Leo Dannies - 55:55
8. Ben Owzinsky, shot off to a great start on his knee style surf ski before having to leave early for a pre-arranged meeting.

SOCIAL CLASS RESULTS:

1. Matt Symonns - 48:36
2. Mick Evans - 51:20
3. Peter Cooper, very unlucky at the start as his board reached the end of the leash and nicked a rock breaking the water seal. We look forward to getting you out there next time in much better conditions!

Race 2, is next Saturday, May 21st. 9:00am registration at St Kilda Beach HQ in front of the St Kilda Seabaths at the Kite Republic HQ end. Hope to see you there!

Congrats to Cam, Paul, Chris, Matt, and not forgetting Jean as the bravest female paddler in Melbourne for turning up, running the full course, and posting a very competitive time on a 12'6 flat water board.

If the forecast stays the way it currently is, next Saturday could be a whole different kettle of fish. Did someone say downwinder?

What a Buzz, it was a real challenge yesterday but really well organised. Thanks to the Sup Club crew and the other diehards that turned up. Amazing to meet so many people that are on Seabreeze. DJ - nicer in real life than he is on this forum. PT Woody a real character. Cam Hosking- I couldn't tell as he was either too far in front of me or zooming past as he and the rest of the field lapped me. Anybody that possibly can should try and make it down next week so that we don't have to do a downwinder. My 12 ft SupAtx ain't quite up to it. Anybody want to lend me a 12'6" or 14 " Fanatic? Sorry, I am allowed to dream.

thanks to all for Saturday.

The conditions where full on but not as full on as the energy of the paddlers ready to get out in the wild weather.

Today, i feel like i have been run over by a car.

I wasn't was I...?

Anyway it was a great experience and like some great sports coach DJ was there at the start and finish and asked me as i left the sea if i had any damage, i replied "only to my ego". I think i had spent about 40 minutes of my 51 mins 2 lap survival trying not to go backwards in the upwind leg, and that was on my knee!!

What a day to start back on a SUP!!!

Rather than be pissed off by the paddlers going past me ( at least twice ) it was inspiring to see what fitness, good gear and talent can produce.

I'll be back next time.

cheers

Mick
