MATT LUMLEY BACK IN THE WATER

Vic SUP legend Matt Lumley hit the water for the first time today since the Noosa Festival (8 1/2 Weeks). After suffering from a tear in his lung which then progressed to pneumonia, to finally battling with an infection where tubes were placed into his body to drain fluid from his lungs... A slightly frail but very happy Matt paddled out at Point Danger today and proceeded to carve the small but clean waves.

Welcome back Matt!

Waa-Hoo!!!... It's great to see you back on the water Matt..

Take it easy and take it slow to start with.. I'm sure you'll bounce back but it may take a while.. Don't rush it.

I don't want to pry too much (although both pictures don't leave too much to the imagination), but how did you tear your lung?

Surf injury? Breathe too deeply? ;-) Get hit in the guts with a SUP? Get nailed by a grumpy mal rider? I'm only after details relevant to surfing and SUPing.

It was a weird one. I think i did it sat in the Noosa comp. the docter's thought's were i have done a turn and its happened pushing hard with the paddle. which put a little tear in my lung. then from there every thing just went freakishly weird and had side affect's that lead to surgery..

Good to hear Matt! While it may not seem so at the time there will be most likely be good things to come from this in the long run and you will come back even stronger than before!
