Looking to get my GF a SUP for her birthday but I have a feeling she'll use it for a few months and then it will just be collecting dust.... So I want to be able to use it also in the waves.
What size and type should I be looking for?
I weigh around 85kgs, 6ft tall and my skill level is beginner - intermediate (been out in the waves a few times with one).
She on the other hand is a beginner but can get up and paddle around. Not sure how much she weighs but it's probably around 45-50kgs (scared to ask) and medium heigh.
If I get a one for the surf, she would be okay to just paddle around the bay right?
Any suggestions would be great.
I would suggest going second hand first up. I had a quick look in the for sale section and this would suit and it's in Vic

!0'6 Naish Nalu. I've had a lot of boards over the years and now I ride a Nalu 10'6 GTW. Great for flat water and Great on the waves. Really good fun board. Gets on waves easy and very quick down the line.. And it's also a beautiful board. People stop and take pictures of it as it's drying out at the beach.
The Sunova surf range would be great to start, in the Ecotec build that are about $1500.
I like the jimmy Lewis striker also...
The nalu is nice also, but over $2k...
Otherwise Waterborn Evoke 9" would be a fine board to begin with.
good luck!
I would get the Nalu 10'6, does it all, great in little waves and would give you GF a great chance of getting into it

Yeah price is a factor, I'm a Uni student and most of my money goes into kiteboarding! Happy to spend around 1k though, I'll have a look around now that I have a few suggestions.
