Hey ... Looking for advice on travelling long distance (ACT to Melbourne) with my Naish Alana on the roof. I have hard roof racks, protective pads, Naish board bag ... is this enough protection for an 8+ hour drive in March weather? Thx Fellow SUPers!

I drove from Sydney to Noosa with a Naish in a board bag during March. The weather was a mixture of sun and rain, when it rained the board bag was saturated inside and out. When I got home I put the board away in the garage in the bag that was still wet and after a couple of weeks noticed the bottom of the board had discoloured and almost looked as though it had gone mouldy. Not sure if this was the effect of heat and wet whilst on the roof, or stored in a wet back.

Subsequent trips, with other boards I have used a towelling board cover as I find it keeps the board much cooler in the heat and dries out much quicker when it's been raining on and off and you are still driving.

I travel with twosups on my car towed behind a Motorhome a couple of months a trip. My Naish 14 footer is in a towelling cover. My mana in a board bag, I make sure the board cover is unzipped a couple of feet to let the air in and let the moisture dry. Had no problems with this set up.When parked if I can't get the car in shade I will take the boards off and put under the Motorhome.

Recently did the Perth to Sydney drive with 2 Sups on top.... In bags and not drama at all. Got some rain and plenty of sun over the 5 days. An 8hr trip from ACT to Melbourne will be no big deal. If the bag gets a soaking though, take the board out and let the bag dry out of course....
