Sports company Puma working with Laird and renowned yacht designer "Juan Kouyoumdjian (Juan K), the mastermind behind PUMA's Mar Mostro Volvo 70, as well as the boat designer for two previous winning Volvo Open 70 boats, ABM-AMRO ONE and Ericsson 4, will collaborate with Hamilton on the surfboard development"

Keep in mind that Nike owns Hurley and is going hard with Nike 6.0 and now the group that owns Puma has just purchased Volcom and the surfing business is heading for new territory.

What an odd looking shape. Looks like half the board is missing.

I'm probably wrong, but I reckon I'm spot on the money with this observation.

Looking at those photos - especially the one with him standing next to a whole lot of stiffs and giant happy octopus, and him paddling that stupid looking board with a gopro on the nose, kind of makes me feel sorry for him.

After years and years doing the hard yards and building his own brand - I reckon he's just sold his soul.

If you recall that video on his website from a while back where he is overheard on the telephone basically doing the whole "Show me the money" thing, I'd say Laird parted company with his soul some time ago.

In fairness though, this is his trade, it's how he puts food on the table and more power to him.

I would not say anything bad about the board before having a look under it

The only thing we know though is that we'll never be able to compare it with anything else since laird does not compete against anybody

It will be interesting to see the results of the board tests with such noted yacht designers and $$$ working on the project. His quest to ride the biggest waves ever with assistance of feedback from the crew on the yacht and then fly in to ride them is unreal. (in the story if you didnt read it)

I also heard that Laird is working as the physical trainer for the crew on the boat.

I am more interested in Puma taking involvement with a surf sport. Nike is already doing damage to the majors, when you have a company that is bigger than the whole surfing industry combined (Fact: Nike makes more $ than all trad surfing companies together) enter the arena with its resources and big budget thinking its exciting for the sport and some of their initiatives as Nike with 6.0 team riders and via Hurley have shaken the tree.

Puma as a competitor to Nike will aim to do the same I'd imagine via Volcom. This is just the beginning.

Is it just a scaled down version of the yacht hull for publicity or is it a very expensive hydrodynamic technically efficient board? hhmmm
