come over to Perth we have at least one racing comp a month here. 3 big downwinder events in December and January, including the 'King of the Cut' our 20km State Champs. Racing doesn't stop until April when the Surf series starts!

I don't know about that. I think we are in a lucky situation where the Training groups are filled with some of the best racers in the world.

So to me every single Saturday BOP training session is like racing with the best in the world, not to mention some of the weekly morning sessions.

As usual Australia doesn't have the most racers in the world but we have most of the best paddlers in the world :)

I think this year BOP California is gonna be full of Aussie Muscles trying to win, it's gonna be one HOT race and even making the Final this year is gonna be hard as it was last year.

I'm just a sucker for pushing myself to limits and BOP California certainly does that, you feel completely WRECKED after the race and have to back it up the next day in the Distance race.

Can't wait :)

Plenty of shops want us to buy boards that aren't cheap, and we have to buy without demos to see how good they are most of the time.

Not sure what shops you are talking about when I went to Gold Coast Dale Chapmen, Roar and SFX all were happy for me to take demo boards out.

The Currumbin training run in the morning with the different groups was super competitive and I know the WA crew modeled their training on that. The WA guys and girls doing it over here are improving in leaps and bounds.

Feel free to organize a race and get sponsorship. I did it over here a couple of years ago. Lots of work

your spot on tea tree, we all seem fixated on huge races with lots of $$$$ yet we all just want a challenge and a fun time.

The Gold Coast has a plethora of quality paddlers and venues for racing. Now i am a lazy bastard with too many commitments but its not to hard to organise, what i suggest and hopefully some body runs with it. Is that once a month or fortnight choose a given day e.g saturday arvo (so all organised morning session are continued) pick a venue watch the weather and choose an appropriate race / paddle for the conditions.

Now insurance is always a problem so the idea is just a group of paddlers with a start and finish line. (just call it a group paddle) so many options eg down wind, bop, handicap or just a fun surf session. With summer arriving an arvo race/paddle with a BYO theme with friends and family after a paddle would be a good way to end any day. Also break down a few barriers as well.

just an idea, last year people talked about a twilight paddle.

no entry fee, no t-shirt, no prizes just the challenge and bragging rights over a mate which is priceless.

haha,i agree with angie. the intensity of training leading up for the crew going to the bop is full on. have an off day and you'll be left behind.

every session atm has a race feel about it.

i'll be glad when they've gone

Oh one more ramble for the top guys/ girls its not only he physical side of racing its the mental side aswell , exposure to constant pressure ect. Been many a good athlee hat has crumbled under tthe pressure. So regular competetion obviousley helps with this aswell.

This is a good point, personally i've been focusing on my ironman racing and the nutri-grain series trials this weekend to get some practice in high pressure racing against most of the worlds top ironmen, Looking forward to the finals tomrorrow!! Hopefully this will pay off in California!

SUPSA's already got the ball rolling for a twilight paddle series this summer, kicking off in late October through to February. More details to come very soon.

Teatrea's timely post just happened to be a coincidence with SUPSA's plans - all our dates were locked in at the start of last week and we were just pulling the details together to send out to members when teatrea started this topic.

It's great to see that the events we were planning seem to be exactly what everyone is looking for, so fingers crossed for some good support for the coming events and setting the foundation for an exciting year for sup on the Gold Coast in 2013.
