Just want to give you a little info on the King Of the Coast Race that is coming up soon.

This year the race is officially recognized as the the Queensland State Titles for the following Ocean Paddle craft...

skis, paddle boards, standup paddle boards for all divisions and SE QLD State Title for outriggers.

As this is a state title event we have decided to run the following SUP classes in this years race.

-Mens Unlimited
-Womens Unlimited

-Mens Stock 14ft (no rudder)
-Womens Stock 14ft (no rudder)

-Mens 12.6
-Womens 12.6

Last year there were over 200 paddlers on various craft all going flat out down to the finish line!

This year the race is going to be even bigger! with a State Title up for grabs in all divisions and classes it is going to attract paddlers from far and wide.

This is your chance to participate in a major downwind race and be part of the action.

I encourage everyone who is interested to give this race a go. These kind of races are so much fun. The excitement and energy at the starting line is intoxicating and the stories told buy the paddlers for the year after are just as fun!

Ocean Addicts has put up cash prizes for the above classes in the SUP division. There are also going to be Trophy's for place winners and not to forget to mention the serious bragging rights that go to all participants who paddle in such a race.

As for the age groups, I know a lot of people will disagree with me, but how many divisions do you expect the sponsors to support? As it is there's 6 classes on offer already and last years october King of the Coast only had 12 sup's participating (8 men and 4 women), and the previous KOTC(January 2010) had 19 Standups, including those opting for the short course option that was offered. Both events have been good fun to be part of and hopefully we'll get lots more at this one whether there's a governing body to deem it an official state title or not!
Surely we need to have people turn up and join in these races before we can expect to have more divisions and prizes on offer? Turn up and join in the fun this year and maybe if there's enough people there this time, age divisions might be an option for the future? Hope to see as many paddlers there as possible this year!

As the event is sanctioned by Queensland Canoeing, the only offical discipline for state champs would be the surf ski as its the only one reconized under Queensland Canoeing, Australian Canoeing and the ICF.

I have been informed that Canoing Queensland is offically reconising all Ocean Paddle Craft for this years King Of The Coast Race. Canoing Queensland will be awarding 1st 2nd and third place medals for all place winners in all divisions and their classes.

Canoeing Queensland will also be issueing all participants who complete the race a participation medel.

As far as I understand that makes it a Queensland State Title for all ocean paddle craft SUPs included.

There will be no diferent age classes in this years SUP division Sorry.
