This might sound like a sponsors plug but it's not.
A mate kindly encouraged me to use a KeNalu paddle in the 12 towers race. WOW!!!!! I was very impressed, an excellent paddle for anyone that is shopping around for a new one.
I loved the stiffness v lightness, the paddle blade shape, it had the right amount of flex when you needed it and I loved the tapered shaft.
I'll be defintately saving up to get one

Always posing for the camera jonsey!!!

Tried one of these in the coolum bop, felt awesome, seemed to make my catch allot smoother, less noise/splashing.
Nice feel to it

What size paddle was it? The Wiki? And was it the 100 or 90 carbon?
I just got a Fanatic Carbon 40 which weighs in at 700grams which is my everyday paddle, I got my wife a Coreban Stealth which weighs in at 600grams and although it's cut for her height I sometimes like to use it just cause it feels way lighter than that. I also just got a Naish Makini Vario for the kids. I am very impressed as it goes down small enough for my 9 yr old and will go long enough for my 6'2 brother in law when he comes to visit, the scales also show it to come in at 585grams! So lighter than the Stealth, very impressed!
I don't care now, my kidney is now up for sale as I will get a KeNalu because my Fanatic 40 is strangely going to go missing:)
Man then I see that the KeNalu Wiki is just 450grams! That's over a third lighter! 350grams off my current paddle!
I will get a KeNalu,

I love my Wiki with 100 flex and Extendable handle. Have been able to use a hair dryer to tweak the length. Mates say its actually improved my stroke rate. I used to get a lot of flutter thru the water with my Kialoa, especially on power strokes. Absolutely none of that now.

Thinking about getting a Maliko too. Slightly heavier, more catch, good for lower cadence.

Best paddle I've used IMHO. Have ditched my Kialoa.

Thanks for that. I am in the market for new top range paddle. As an "older" paddler I have had a few issues with arm pain so I am looking at the Maliko. Reports like yours assists when making a choice.

I have a Maliko and a Wiki. I tend to prefer the Maliko for longer distance, steady tempo paddling and the wiki for going fast (or trying to, by my standards anyway). Of the two the Wiki is fairly technically demanding, it has a quick, clean catch & release and allows a fast cadence but it lets you know when your form is crook. Maliko is more forgiving, still with clean catch & release but the pull is very strong compared to the wiki. I haven't tried the big Molokai. Mates (faster paddlers than me) who have tried both of mine tend to gravitate toward the Wiki.
I have a dodgy shoulder and elbow and I've done a few 3hr flat water sessions with both paddles. NO pain at all where my other paddles would have me reaching for the voltaren. After 20k of respectable tempo with the Maliko I can still hoik my Naish 17 onto the car with relative ease. Highly recommended.

Thanks a lot Human Cartoon (funny name) that tells me what I need to know.
I paddle 50% flatwater/50% trying to improve my SUP Surfing. I think the Maliki is a good choice for me. I want to be able to get a bit more push when paddling for a wave. So appreciate you comments.

Lp - sounds like a good retirement plan you have there.

I have a Maliko (I think....the 8.5 blade, anyway) with the 100% carbon shaft which I use as my surf paddle. Very nice....very smooth.

I ve taken my new KeNalu out a couple of times now on flat water and I love it.
It feels so "honest" , that is a direct connection to the water, little flex, no flutter and a quiet smooth entry and exit.
I noticed that if you keep the paddle in too long, ie. past where you should have it out I feel a slight vibration as if the paddle has gone past its optumum power area into something less ideal.
Hard to explain but some things just make you smile.
