Very interesting stats.

Are these paddlers pro's or semi pro's or just the dedicated paddling community?

I have been SUPing for 3months and regularly record 8kph on my 12'6 Hobie over double the distance @ 8km

I'll have to go out and do some 4.2km runs and see what I get.

I know that Darren at AKS and a few other crew seem to be able to hit 8.5-9.5kph over a 10km course...pretty impressive!!

Hey Swanie & Peter, any chance of forwarding on the timing template to the Sth Ozzies, is it suitable to use nationally?
Cheers, Phil

Hi Phil

PM me your email address and I will send you a copy of it. It has all their times on it as well and is worth having a look at.

Ryan and Lincoln are strong young'ens and very good paddlers. Lincoln recently won Noosa and a bunch of other stuff.

Ryan got 7th at Noosa

The rest paddle to keep the weight of our old carcasses.

Hi Swanie Great Post
Ryan Keck's time is BULK FAST (weapon). Was there any tail wind and current assistance just asking as I'm extremely curious 6 minutes 4 second a kilometre is lightning speed fast for a flat water canal paddle.
Can you ask Ryan Keck to wear the Garmin 310XT - GPS watch as this watch is extremely accurate and download Ryan's time on here. The AIS use these watches on there athletes
( I don't want to accuse Ryan for using Sports Enhancing Drugs )

Thanks
DW

I will see if one of the guys has one for him to use. He is a great paddler and the distance and time is accurate.
As for sports enhancing drugs... Does Mac's and take out count (sorry Ryan) and who knows what they get up to at Uni these days.
The time he did was in a closed lake on a Olympic kayak course which is 2km long and 100m wide (fully marked and laned). No tide / current assistance and on this day it was calm as in regard to wind. We also paddled about 20m longer then the normal course each way as we went around other cans past the normal finish line.

I intend to post each week the time of each paddler.

In about 2 months we will have a handicap race based on individual times and wind condition.
These arvo's are open to everyone and there is no cost involved. Just turn up. If you are on the Sunny Coast any Thursday feel free to join in. We start at 5pm but if you get there before 5:30 we will still time you but you might be paddling by yourself. I reckon you get better results when you have someone to race.

Enough of Ryan, what about our 7 min/km for us older blokes twice his age on shorter boards..

Ive got a garmen that ill use on thursday as long as i can get out of uni.
Its not me its the board. the 15'6 DC is the fastest board around. Lincoln would definitely put me to shame if he paddled my board, i remember doing sprints with him on his 12'6, me on my 15 and he still beat me!

he's an athlete on a completely different level to me.

Glad you like the format - we've got times for 165 paddlers recorded so building up a nice database of everyones times and what boards they used.

Quite weird to see a list full of 12'6's - we barely have any 12'6 times, everyone here is on 14' or wave/cruisers.

Being a olympic kayak course I'd imagine your course is deep enough (+2.5m) to eliminate any groundeffect which means you should be able to get close to maximum speeds possible.

Our time-trial is perfectly sheltered but is not more than 1.5- 1.8m deep depending on time of year so to date no-one has equalled Ryan's speed here.......

We go faster in winter when there is more water - a couple of tenths of a km/h....or maybe we are just lethargic in summer......

We have Beau O'Brien and Paul Jones giving it a crack this Thursday. The wind may not be as favourable but I am looking forward to seeing what they can do.
