Young Jono got lucky recently and got to choose a new board. He eventually settled on the Surftech Bark 12.6

We searched everywhere for a BBQ to photograph it on but had to settle for the edge of the boardwalk. It obviously has a pretty flat rocker but we really wanted to see if it has a negative rocker up front leading into a piercing nose. Its a bit of an optical illusion but I think its there!!

We took it down to the marina and launched it on its maiden voyage.

Very stoked young man

More reach required (and maybe some fake tan)

Now I am really going to have to find time to build those racks!

Big thanks to Luke and the crew at SHQ for helping Jono out
Cheers Mel

Great to see more juniors getting into the Sup racing scene.
Train hard Jono, and looking forward to the day when you can come up north and challenge some of the kids up here!

Jono is raw but has great potential. We will certainly do everything we can to make sure he takes it up to the young punks up north in the years ahead. Good choice Mel and well done Luke and SHQ for supporting the kids.

Awesome stuff Jono,

looks like a smokin board now you will be out there training with the old man.

Great to see SHQ also supporting the juniors.

Thanks all,
I don't know a lot about technique but know enough to recognise that Jono will need some help over time to smooth out his stroke. I guess its a lot like swimming where there is always something to be worked on or done more efficiently. Probs best if it isn't always coming from his old man either

Thanks Phill
The only problem is I can't always keep up with him
It may be time I had a board upgrade, maybe something motorised!

I don't think enthusiasm's going to be a problem...a handful of us hit HMB at first light one morning last week, to be greeted by Jono & Mel coming out of the water just finishing their session

We're stoked to have Jono on the SHQ team. He's a definate up and coming talent and a great young fella.
Jono, the guys at Surftech are going to send Jamie Mitchell down to SHQ sometime this year to run a clinic. When he came down last year a few of us were lucky enough to get some great tips from him. Will keep you posted.

Cheers

Am finding paddling in the dark with a side chop very challenging but no doubt good for the whole balance thing
