A Jimmy Lewis board stolen? Does Svein Rasmussen have an alibi?

(apologies for making light of the situation - board theft - not cool)

Thanks for all the posts been trying to stay positive and not think of the board that seemed to grow legs.... Cheered myself up and went fishing yesterday that always seems to help.
So instead of focusing on the neg might just have to face the fact that I'm not going to see my board again. Time to start saving for another one.!!!!
Shame I was just about to add to the quiver winter is just about here so a replacement Jo 9'1 will have to be at the top of the list.

help you get back in the water sooner rather than later.

Hi jonoj,

Total bummer about your board. We'll keep an eye out here in the shop in case some putz tries to come and hock it off. Did you check with your home insurer? Some home insurers will cover theft outside the home, it would be worth the check.

Another piece of insurance is the Kanu Locks to lock your board onto your roof racks. We recommend them to most of our customers and they are well liked as a product. Using Kanu's allow some of our paddlers (and us) who paddle with us at 5.30am, the ability to load the board the night before and leave it on the car roof overnight, knowing it will be there in the morning for a speedy getaway.

I 'ken hate thieves! [}:)]

This really sucks...

I'd be a little wary about locking your board on if it is out of sight or siting out in the street overnight. If you read up a bit on bike locks (which i was doing recently) you'll find that most if not all can be cut though - its simply a matter of how long it will take. Any decent set of bolt cutters would get through a couple of strips of stainless steel in about less time than its taken me to write this sentence.

Its terrible that we even have to think of such things, but yeah... not sure its the safest thing to do to just assume the lockable straps will protect you completely. (ie I still wouldn't leave my board on the roof in the street overnight in a city)

Hi Windjunky,

Kanu locks are not a guarantee to prevent theft, but they can and do stop the opportunists. Lets face it, how many crims walk darkened streets carrying bolt cutters hoping to find a SUP Kanu Locked to a roof rack?

If a decent crim wants any of your possessions, they are gone and there is nothing you can do to stop them. I mean organised crims can knock over banks and armoured cars, what hope have you got. But thieving little scumbags that decide your board would be better in their possession than yours whilst in a carpark in daylight wont stand a chance.

Agree DM - they do prevent the opportunists. Don't get me wrong, great idea and I should (and will) get a pair myself, but i still wouldn't leave anything in a dark alley every day of the week expecting them to be perfectly safe - that's all i am saying.

Check your home and contents insurance. I'm with NRMA and they cover your boards on the roof of the car against theft, regardless of whether they are locked or not.

I still use a lock if I am away from the car for more than a couple of minutes.

I have these for all of my boards:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/LONGBOARD-SURFBOARD-LOCK-/260698601504?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cb2d8f820

You can secure them with a heavy duty padlock and chain if your worried about people with bolt croppers (unless they have the Rolls Royce of bolt croppers!).

A question was it actually on the roof racks? Maybe if you were at a shop check them for surveillance cameras. You maybe able to get some info on the perp
