SUP's at about $2500 are a bit expensive but surely Starboard are taking the piss?

That is the sad fact. I feel sorry for the retailers.

Imagine if you could buy a custom car for half the price of a production model....there would be cool cars everywhere with everyone getting exactly what they want..

Yes that would be right but no one in Aus can manufacture them they have to send them offshore even custom boards, or is delamination of cheap sups a myth?
Either way they are made for a market that is willing to pay and the cheap ones are for another market as are middle of the range, it's no different to a Ferrari vs a Hyundai.

I have Noticed that retailers are not stocking their shops with these expensive boards and starting to carry more affordable boards.
You can still order the top end but probably won't see a lot of them on display. I think the high cost of manufacturing may force a rethink on how these boards are made and the big three should start to look to companies like Sunova who make great looking boards without the shiny bells and whistles .

Why would you want a carbon surf SUP anyway. They are lifeless, corky and awful to surf in anything bigger than 2'....compared to a similar shape in a material that allows some flex. Save the carbon for the race boards that need a bit of stiffness

Flame suit on not a plug just a fact but JP Pros aren't carbon for just that reason it's a mix of composites to still allow flex...

I only know what I am told if that's wrong it's wrong but there are NO Aussie Sups on offer anywhere in Melbourne! All are made in China and Taiwan, they can design here but it is not worth the expense to produce GOOD ones here so they send it offshore. I was told it's not the same as building a surf board the technology and process is very different?

I find that hard to believe no custom Sups in Vicco....some of the best shapers in Aus are there. Look a bit harder.

Not in Melbourne, but Torquay is 1hr away. Stonker can build to your specifications talk to Murray and they'll do it. I know Sparx also has a custom guy in the Ocean Grove area. Ask and you will receive. I've concentrated on surfing my custom Laguna Bay since my hip and back have really healed and loving the looseness as my body gets more fitness and flex. It's still a bit tippy but it turns on a dime. I love the feel of foam and fibreglass under my feet. Stonker are just behind Ripcurl OldDave. Go see, touch and feel what you're paying much less for. Go talk to Rasta in Barwon Heads he'll tell you about shapers in the OG, Lony, BH area.(and sell you a LB while he's at it) I just noticed this on FB worth a look. www.noosasurfworks.com.au I got my custom from them. I think they deliver to Vicco free if you wait for a truck thats coming down. Just trying to be helpful. I really liked what I saw at Stonker, but I must admit I like anything with fins that will float me. I love Deep, DC, DTM, ECS, Lahui Kai and on and on........
