Courtesy of a Woolamai wipeout.

I think it was a case of 'Too big, too soon and too gung ho' or just plain stupid.

The red line indicates extra cracks and creases.
The underside is fine.
Is it possible to cutout large patches and re-glass?

I'll take it down to Oke's for a quote but thought I'd post this for some opinions.

Thanks, ALsDown.

Bummer!..

There's nothing stupid about having a go out there today and you're not the only one to crease a board out there.. At least it's not totally in two bits.

I know it's fixable because I've seen many windsurfers broken in half put back together but it wont be quite the same and it will be heavier.

I was lucky to pull out of a couple of those big sets just in time and heard the big boom behind me as they broke and the spray rained past me.

I took some pictures of you riding a wave in and not knowing your board was broken.. Maybe Mick can post them because I used his camera.

I say fix it and I hope it doesn't cost you too much.. There's an old thread on the Zone where Sam posted pics of him fixing a broken board.. I'll try and find it.

Heart breaking. How many days into owning that board? 8 by my count.

Yeah, fix it. It will be a little heavier.... Probably only ride it in small waves from then on also....

Or fix it, and sell it.... you will at least get back the "fix it price". And a learner can get to take up the sport at a low entry cost.

OK some people who can do it properly and have done excellent repairs for us!

David Boyd Imperial Surfboards OG Excellent work.

Strapper Surf Torquay ask for Rich they may or may not want to do it!

Dean Snow LSD Sea Breeze PM him. Dean has fixed lots of broken boards most almost as good as new.

These guys can work miracles but wont be cheap!

Me thinks might be better to get a new one

Put the board upright broken ends down leaning on a towel ASAP to draw the water out and change the towels until no more water comes out!

Disc: I have an assocaiation with all these people because I surf with them buy thier products / boards and true love the quality of thier work and service.

Have a look at the Pope Tri-Sect / Bi-Sect post also.... Sounds like Pope are hard to deal with..... and would probably not sell you the required parts... But if you were inventive and creative, you could sacrifice 3 inches in length, and turn it into a bi-sect board.

My mate Darren and I were talking about this concept about 12 years ago, but decided it would be too hard to perfect the system.

Hey ALsUP, I carried ya paddle up for ya. Sorry about the board. Hopefully a fix is just around the corner for you. Good to see all the SUP'ers out this morning, the waves got pretty heavy there for sure.

Mega bummer! You should have warned us, this report contains graphic and disturbing images. It feels like walking down the street and seeing your first girlfriend has become a crack ho.

At least judging from the photos of the day she went down swinging. Epic surf!

I'm thinking anything is repairable. The question is whether it is worth the money and hassle to do it. It's obviously going to gain a little weight with the extra resin and glass and filler.

The best thing would be to take it to Oke. They will tell you pretty quick whether it is worth fixing.

Even if it is a write off you might want to have a go yourself as a side project. You make your own paddles so you have the skills. Perhaps do a cut and shut and make it into an 8' spoon or something.

Thanks for all your feedback guys.
I've still got my Naish 11'6 so I can keep on the water.
I'll do some research into fixing it myself, just had a look at the BoardLady site which looks very helpful.

Got some stoke back today on the 14' Glide in 30 knots of Melbourne's stormy weather on a downwinder from St.Kilda with six other crew.

Cheers, Alan.

I just checked out the board lady site again - what a great site for those wanting to go down the DIY path. She's very thorough - looks like you have a big job ahead of you.
