I missed a great photo opportunity today.

I wasn't going to take my camera today because we were just going to paddle the same thing as last week (Port Melbourne pier area) but in the last minute I grabed it anyway..cos you never know what might happen and I'd be kicking myself if I missed a good photo opportunity because I didn't have it with me.

It was cold and crappy (unlike Melbourne weather ) and as we paddled past where we saw dolphins last week (and I fell in trying to get a pic) they were there again..Heaps of them.

I got my camera out and took a few pictures but..as soon as I turned it on it would turn its self off..Yes a bloody flat battery...Bugger!

John paddled off in their direction and I was just hanging around and all of a sudden they were all around me..Swimming under my board again and again and rolling on their side as they went past so they could get a good look at me.

There were times when I could have touched them with my hand they were so close and as big as my board..One even did the flipper thing and came half out of the water right in front of me while I fiddled with my camera trying to take a pic..But no go.. ..It would not work.

Here's a couple of pics that I did get..and nothing to get excited about..(Scotty..hit the exit button now).. )

Ooh look..She's coming right at me..Come on bloody camera work.

Oh well...Maybe next time.

Nice one DJ. I'm really looking forward to seeing some dolphins up close. I got my camera working so I took a few shots.

I was in Inverloch this w/e where there was very slight offshore breeze. Couldn't believe it was still there when it was howling in Melbourne this morning. I even managed to catch quite a few waves, now I just have to work out how to turn.

Here's my fishing setup - I love paddling to the sand island behind the board, set everything up and forget about everything else. There is a very deep channel between with a roaring current. Paddling directly against it is like walking on a treadmill.

The obligatory "supping with your dog" photo

Woke up at dawn for a surf - great morning even if it was freezing

Hi Guys,
Had a similar experience yesterday, two dolphins right up close off Pt Ormond - one with a very distinct freckled nose. Then further up, I guess about 500m to a K off Luna Park five dolphins! Swimming really close so that I had to watch I didn't hit them with the paddle, for a while they got really excited jumping in front of the board, amazing they never touched the board. I swear one of them came out in front of the board and missed the nose of the board with it's dorsal fin by an inch or less. I lay down on the board and tried to touch them but they lost interest when I wasn't paddling. They pretty much hung around up top middle park, must have been a a lot of fish around because the birds were going nuts dive bombing amongst the pod of dolphins. Head wind got stronger and stronger but I was pretty determined to make it to the Spirit of Tassie, security guard got all twitchy when I got close enough to almost touch it - maybe it was the black tee-shirt I put over my head to stop my head and neck getting burnt! Then had to turn around and get back to Green Point, thank heavens for tail wind, completely shagged with freezing feet tripped up the stairs and banged the rail of the board...bugger. Took me almost four hours round trip and boy do my shoulders know it!
