I use Adobe Premiere (and a little bit of Adobe After Effects for the super slow-mo).

This is what it comes out like:

I just screen print the clip at the right time and paste it into Adobe Photoshop to get a still off the video. They never come out as clear as having the GoPro in photo mode though.

I don't own a GoPro, but I know they capture mpeg 4 video which is a format that can be directly transferred to an iPod. If you want to edit it, by my knowledge, the easiest way to do it would be by converting the file to .avi format using format factory and then open it using the old version of Windows Movie Maker 2.6 (or any older versions prior to the one released with Windows 7). If you want to capture stills from the video, Media Player Classic does that.

Mac is hands down the better OS to perform the functions you want.

Ya gotta go Mac. I recently switched over with a Mac mini, iPad and iPhone 4s and haven't looked back. iMovie is just so simple to use and I have been editing with my GoPro footage as well as HD Handycam. To take a freeze frame you just right click and press something (it's easier when it's in front of you). iMovie is so easy and has so many options.

I've also just got a gopro and all my images, stills and video are blurry. The lens is clean is it because I am just viewing them through my computer / removable disk / open.

Haha,, it's Sony Vegas Pro on a PC for me, but Sony Movie Studio Platinum HD is a good consumer version for Gopro footy. Edit straight on the timeline if you want, but for Pro colour correction, transcode to an Editing format in 422 colourspace, makes all the difference when you need to push the colours. That's what the GoPro Production Editors do, but they use Apple Pro Res422 and edit on macs. You would think they would use Cineform seeing they bought the company, but they don't, except for 3D.

Macs are ok, but my last one was an Apple Macintosh, yes i'm an old fart.
