I thought you couldn't tow if there was at least 1 prone surfer... or is that NSW... but there was SUP's instead of prone... ???????
The tow vehicle pilot looks like he would last about 7.5 seconds on decent hold down....

No water police , no rules , horrific injury Caloundra Bar last big swell.Jet ski rider over the handle bars,under jet,unconscious with spine injury .

Boating and Fisheries don't have any control,Lifeguards have no control,Water Police only have 1 Rubber Ducky for the 120 k of Sunshine Coast water ways.

Don't want Jets banned , but what do you do when they wave jump and land 1 foot from your board????

Does not matter where it is FFS Power gives way to all forms of watercraft. Been the same rule for ages. Jet ski riders in general (not all) only think of themselves. They do not care about how their wake effects everyone else.

"they let us have first pick" If they were doing that that's good. Shared with a couple of crews over here who are really good and work in they are a rare breed though.

I believe it was big and fat yesterday so I guess it was an opputunilty for the boys to have a bit of fun at the bombie which is out of most peoples league and thats just the paddle out

I don't normally involve myself in forums or share my opinions but felt compelled to say something after this post and several replies.
I know this may not sit well with some, but it is those ego's or those without respect that I am addressing this to.
It amazes me why some people feel the need to post photo's or even worse, name surf spots after a great (or what they consider to be a great) session. Is their self esteem that low that they need the approval of others to justify in their minds that they are ripping or charging?
By all means take photo's of you and your mates having fun, ripping, charging or what ever, but if is not at an obvious spot like Burleigh, D/bah or where ever your local is then consider the consequences of your actions. By posting photo's or naming spots that only break on rare occasions you are adding to the publicity of previously uncrowded special waves.
Respect those who have dedicated many years of their life to researching, chasing and training for special waves.
The wave that was photographed has become a zoo in the 20 years I have been surfing it, due to exposure in the media and more recently on forums such as this. Just as things die down again some idiot goes and reminds everybody by posting photo's on the net, hiring a chopper and broadcasting it on the local news or mentioning it on the local boating and fishing report.
What some people don't seem to fathom is that the wave has been there a long time and will remain that way, but by continually exposing it you may not be able to for much longer without having to deal with overcrowding, violence and danger. One only needs to look at the result exposure has had on places like Pe'ahi. The unforunate side effect of exposure is that it attracts people who should not necessarily be out there. By this I am referring to those who tow when is that small or who don't paddle out under their own power. Sorry "baldrick" but it is a casual paddle (I continue to due so some 20 years after my first surf there) and if you are not prepared to paddle out and swim in should something go wrong then you should not be there.
As far as towing goes, it is out of control here on the Goldy with the worst offenders being arrogant Pro's and wannabe's who don't have the fortitude to paddle, prone or upright.
As far as this last swell being special, it may have been in Tassie and N.Z. but not here. If you think the swell that graced our shores here was special then you really have been living under a rock. Even for here it was another over hyped fizzer, take another look at the photo's and the swell bouy readings. I am not not trying to disrespect or put anyone down here just wanting to put things in perspective.
You are correct 'Simondo said', the laws prohibit towing where guys are paddling (prone or standing) and are very similar to those of NSW.

I hope my comments are received and digested with the respect that they are shared.

I understand your points and agree for other areas on the Goldie but here you are talking about a break which has web cam on it because it's a marine hazard, channel 9 shot it in there own helicopter and showed it that night not to mention all the hoards of people watching it from the shore line and every news station cut to it in there news highlights. The 1000's of people who surf TOS stare straight at it.....

The cat has bolted Rod my photos show the Koas out there and this might get the authorities to actually get out there and protect us when we paddle in......we were the only paddlers out we Supped for 3 hours and I got out and took some shots for the last hour.

The biggest problem out there isn't the tow crews they were out numbered 10 to 1 by the cowboys free riding the waves on there jet skies which came and left in different groups.

photo's of one self- is it- self promotion only, self promotion of the unsponsered to get sponsered, exposure for sponser- part of the job of being sponsered to get exposure for the sponser, self promotion for ones own product/business

i don't get/do photo's of myself for myself to post on forums, probably look like a dork anyway. sure i think it's egotistical to post photo's of ones self, but i don't have a problem with it

These pics will be published in mags , all I have done here is shared them first on this site before you have to buy mag in a few months time to see them. I won't make that mistake again.

Pretty common place for photographers to do this remember Billy Watsons Epic Shack shot down South at the super super secret spot , it was all a major feature in our local rag and it was then featured in heaps of surf mags worldwide.

It only took me a few hours to get the location for that place , if it hadn't had been for that shot I would never have known about it and thats where I totally agree with Rod's point.
