Hey, Anyone had success in getting a 10'6" SUP (or over 9' SUP) to Fiji from Australia? The common airlines only take up to 9' as oversized luggage then it seems to get tricky and you have to frieght your SUP. Bz

As far as I'm aware, it'll depend on the model of plane you fly on - for example, Virgin Australia has this policy listed - www.virginaustralia.com/au/en/plan/baggage/oversized-fragile-items/?error=login_required

If you fly Pacific Blue(Virgin) the aircraft will be a 737-800. I know the website says 3meters which Is 9'8" however I worked for them for a few years and they always accept bigger. I have personally taken a 10'6 Nalu on a Virgin flight. You'll be fine.

Yep Roscoe 1974 and the Zuesman have it! Aircraft size is the primary reason.

Don't do this type of transport in Europe as you will be bankrupt.

I went over in 2013 with Air Pacific and my 9'1 Laguna Bay. I didnt have any dramas with the plane but I did with the Malalo Cat transfer to Lomani Island. I asked, queried, checked and confirmed that I wouldnt have a problem yet the Cat wanted to put it on a Private Taxi I ended up talking the skipper around but did cost me additional bucks. But good waves at Cloudbreak made up for it.

Hey Zuesman,
Where did you take your Nalu to and from?

shaga,
Yes can well imagine you could have opposition on the cat, a 10'6" would probably come against even more resistance that would require more cash to break the barriers down.
I'm also looking into hiring in Fiji, but as it is with Bula time I'm not getting a lot of joy there.
Not planning on going back till May next year, hopefully a solution arises in the mean time.
Maybe a 8'10" Fanatic Allwave is the answer.

SYD-Brisbane. Same aircraft and rules apply though.

I took my 14' to Fiji in 2011.
They charge you $50 for bulky/oversize luggage but got waivered anyway.
Beat that

I'm sure Downwinder will have a story about his 17' SIC to beat me.
