Here's a Vid with my new camera of Brendan[Bnaccas] and myself from this morning.
Its from a Lumix digital camera so a fair way short of some other vids posted on here.
I even left some footage on there of myself mucking up a wave but its to funny to edit out.
Cheers,
Camo.

We'll keep an eye on it DJ for a morning midweeker. Its the right time of year to get some size will have to wait and see.Found it a heaps better break on the sup board compered to prone surfing with the paddle advantage helping heaps as like Phill noticed is often a fatter wave but once your on heaps of fun.

On lower tides it is a lot steeper. When we first got out it was steeper but was too dark on the gopro (we got out on first light).

After mid tide it starts getting inconsistant and the swell direction changes. It's also hard to get clean as it's so far off shore the wind can get into it. This is the perfect time of year. The right is good also.

Big Left is one of those waves that you get good once and it keep sucking you back to not so good waves. We were lucky i guess.

It's called Big Left but 90% of the time I go right. It's more hollow and you get more reforms ... and I'm much better on my forehand.

I've had good surf every time I go there and I'm probably a barely competent surfer at best. I used to be a Pines surfer but Big Left is less crowded and works in a much wider range of tides.

As has been said before Big Left has a relatively narrow strip of reef so it starts of thick, get's very steep and hollow then backs off. You have to get it right on the steep bit to catch the waves but because it backs off even kooks like me can handle it.

Of course, it's a completely crap wave and never works and none of you should surf it, ever.

I agree! What I meant is it only needs to be lightish winds and it can get lumpy. Also you can get a lot of back wash moving around when the swell is bigger.

I wasn't saying that its not a good wave but there are definately more performance waves around. It's a long and usually fat ride but on lower tides there can be some good sections. When the beachies are 6ft+ then it can get suprisingly heavy.

When the tide gets fuller the swell doesn't wrap around Cape Schanck as much and hits Big Left more from the west which can make the right get fat quick as it breaks into deeper water. Both the left and right need heaps of swell though to be any good on high tide.

Great video Camo, I've always had a good time at Big Left. But you have to pick the right day probably been pretty good down there all week.

I still need to have a shot of your board Cam in some decent waves.

I've got some ideas for my new board (one day!) and I'm thinking of shrinking yours by about 10%. 8'6" x 29" x 4 1/4".

Can you remember the volume of your board? Or beers?

Sounds like great dimensions for your next one, Bnaccas. Try not to get the rails too boxy though.

Great vids - looked like a fun day.
