Phill I think you should catch up with the guy in Torquay that makes the Glide fins and get something like the one I use in my Javelin.. I think it's about 9 1/2"

The same pointer/dagger style fin that comes with the 14' Glide like yours.

Jonathan has tryed so many fins in his new Starboard SurfRace including fins like that Jim Tirrell fin and he's ended up with a Glide fin like mine.. He says the difference is huge.. I think most of that Jin Terrell fin's design is to avoid catching weed/kelp because that's a big issue for a lot of the US guys.

Yes, I think that raked fin is all about dropping weed, and riding over those thick kelp beds.

The Monteray Aquarium in California has a great kelp display. Their kelp can be 20m long. The Aquarium has a great Sea Otter family. Recommended Accommodation is Colonial Terrace. www.thecolonialterrace.com/
Golf - you can play at America's fames Pebble Beach for about USD$500, and it is a public course, so no need to even be a member elsewhere !! The price tag keeps the riff raff away !!

Monterey is a beautiful place, one of our favourite stops along Hwy 1.

I believe that DW boards have special needs when it comes to fins but it's nothing like the difference a fin can make to a surfing and windsurfing type board.

It only does two things.. Helps with tracking and helps with stability.. and maybe turning to a small degree.

I think you should be using the smallest fin that you can get away with.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all the input.

The Vortice XP turns up today so Fin R&D will be underway shortly if it hasnt blown away on the trip down.

Huge thank you to Aiden (Abomber) for his help bringing it down, Kristi says you rock!

Gotta love the SUP community spirit.

I can feel a boat assisted trip coming up soon !! Not just photos, but video !!

--------

Edit;

I think this would be a pretty good all round fin, flat & down wind. Raked near the base (front) to drop weed.

- you can even chose your size, and box type, but you'll want "american (a)" standard box.

In fact, I have convinced myself.... I'm going to get one! Maybe 9"1/2 or 10".

Hey Boylos,

We are complete DW kooks, lots to learn before we get too over the top.

I will get some happy snaps up from time to time.

Looks like Simondo and Kristi will be out and about on the weekend conditions being favorable.

Will be interesting to see how the Glide 14 and the Vortice XP compare.

It has less rocker than I imagined, its quite narrow at 26 at the wide point and is very light if my bathroom scales are correct. I would say 9.5kg ???

The double barrel concaves remind me of the Hydrofields I once owned and the sunken deck dihedral nose all look the goods.

All in all a very nice llooking board.

I'm sure Kirsti will enjoy it! .... and I look forward to the 2 C4 Vortice attacks at the Mambo Downwinder!

Also will be interested to get your thoughts on the Glide /Vortice and how they compare.

Hey Phill,

Checkout the post Molikiki to Oahu ,there's a picture there of Todd Bradley with the Vortice and it has a differant fin ,it's a lot longer than the spitfire that's on our Vortice.
I've never seen it before.
