hey..
do you know exactly where u are staying in fiji?...on the mainland or an island etc...
i,ve been over a couple of times....the last time i hired a board over their, must say though..it was an old dog box and there was no way i was going to take it to anywhere decent!.....it was ok for a flat water paddle!....
i,ve heard theres a place in Nadi that rents boards too...so i would look at them first!
cheers reddog

Hey Reddog- I think Coral Coast. Do you know how long that is from Airport. Youngest Kid is 2 and dont think she will handle too much travel

Hi Rocker, not sure if your question was how far coral coast is from nadi or from the shop to the resort in coral coast.

But Coral Coast to Nadi is about 2.5hr drive.

There was someone else online on sea breeze that said there was a company called Walu Watersports located in coral coast, you could try googling that & checking them out.

Hope that helps

+1 The Beachouse - www.fijibeachouse.com/

We were there last Nov with our grommet, then 2y/o. Loved it!

They have plenty of SUP's for hire - as they are a Coreban distributor. I recommend organising this with them before you go, if you want to ride a specific board?

There are waves directly out front. But you will need to check tides, as it needs to be high. Otherwise they will arrange boat trips for you to other reefs - maybe Frigates?

Enjoy!

yeah.... coral coast is great for family!....
been over their a couple of times with family,,,,,we stayed at the shangri-la resort just last year...its great for the kids !..i,ve heard the beach house is great too!...it depends what part of coral coast youre at but its usually around 1 to 2 hrs from airport...worth it though, u dont want to be stuck at a resort near nadi......(thats my personal opinion anyway)
i hired my SUP over there through Walu watersports.....but to be honest the boards are really old Naish ones and not ideal for surfing!...although the my little kid loved the one with the glass window, he spotted fish while i paddled!..lol
id take Blackdmnd,s advice and maybe hire boards from there!

anyway..its Fiji mate......youll enjoy no matter what!

Has anyone actually yaken their own board?

Going to Fiji in August and thinking of taking an Allwave 9'2".

Virgin say that you can take anything up to 3m in length (9'8") so should be ok.

Anyone experienced any issues?

Just got back from Samoa & took my 9' SUP, Virgin are ok with size etc, weight is the issue, if you read their web site under sporting goods/surfboards it says 32kg, but when you check in they say 23kg & want $10.00/kg for anything over. Coming home no issue, Samoa check in far more easy going.

Hey Reddog, Samoa was great, very easy going, not very touristy at all, stayed at Salani, great wave right out the front, very heavy reef breaks everywhere & the good thing is if the wind is blowing onshore on one side its off shore the other side.

+2 on the Beachouse www.fijibeachouse.com/ it's half way between Nadi & Suva on the Coral Coast about 1-1/2 drive from the airport , such a cool beautiful place. Fantastic family place with surf straight out front , super sup friendly. The owner Andrew Brown is really into Sups he has boards their to hire , plenty of boats to take you to other surf spots.

Re the boards Air Pacific charge $50 each way per oversize bag so put your paddle inside the board bag , pretty sure you can take almost 10ft board. Virgin is the other option cannot recommend Crapstar.

This is some of my pics...

Am looking for the next holiday location, we now have a new member, so the days of 2 of us heading off without a thought in the world are gone. Have been thinking about Fiji & the coral coast, Wife not a surfer, loves flat water SUP & snorkelling, so Fiji looks great.

Got friends heading to Tonga in Sept to check out surf, SUP, etc

Yep can vouch for Fiji,
Plenty of options either mainland or islands. You will have a great time no matter what you do.
And yes boards are available for hire over there. SUP does not yet seem to be "fully engrained" over there... Yet!
Been twice and stayed in the Mamanuca islands both times. Loved it!
Hired from lisa at Walu watersports, basic and older boards but still does the job!
