Was great to see such a good crew of paddlers, down at the first Fenn for this season. With some pretty challenging conditions. Props to Andy Davies for taking out 1st.

Between solid sets rolling through the inside turning buoy, half into the wind half with it. It was another eventful but well worth while race. Will post times, and pics when they come through..

I gather they didn't end up paddling from Mona to Palm Beach.... Bloody fast if they did. What course and distance?.

It was only 4.65km per my GPS, attached is the plot of my course. (Note: the background is not a reflection of conditions on the day just a standard satellite picture)

from what dean said when they set the course. It was between 7-8 km, closer to 7 maybe. Half into wind, half across / with it.

Followed into turning buoy by pretty large breaking swells. pretty interesting stuff

8km in 31 mins, 16km/hr. I say WS GPS is more accurate even if the turning buoy appears to have moved....
I suppose when you have to change the course at the last minute its hard to judge accurate distances and speed so the time is negligible.

Anyone got photos of the event to share?
I hear the conditions were crazy.
Also is it true that there was problems with the start of the race?
with the race starter letting the race go early while some Ski's and
Sups were still making there way to the start line?

there have been some shots, but none from the water as of yet. will post them when they come through.

I felt for the organisers, as it was challenging conditions to run the event in. Distance was meant to be closer to 7, but dont know if anyone was wearing a garmin to check.

I think Matt (WorlSUP) got it right, especially since he was wearing a GPS = 4.65km. That's an average of 7.54km/h for my race which seems about right. And yes the turning buoy did move during the race.

Here are some pics from Dez from Blast Paddlers (more on their Facebook page). They don't do the size of the mountains of water out the back justice:

Yep and as frustrating and disorganising as it was you just have to try your best.

Start line was supposed to be the yellow bouys but started in the distance willy nilly where you can just see the boat, good 150m out...Safe call in the end with all the ski carnage at the northern end[}:)]

Yep, even i missed the start of the race and never ended up shooting any SUPs at all in the video. Difficult day for everyone.

Here's a video of what i got anyway, which will at least show what the conditions were like.
