Wondering if I can get some thoughts and comments on the Star-board TAC wood deck construction.
Is it holding up well, compressing, sinking and how is the grip standing up to the rigours of surfing ?
Also, is it true it comes with clear railsaver tape or is that after market ?
Any comments would be appreciated as my Whopper Candy deck showed compressions behind the centre standing pad from the very first surf every time my back heel dropped back for turns and my Big Easy Candy deck has bubbled which is a shame as it surfs fun so I'm thinking of changing construction rather than board brand.
I really haven't spent near enough time on the TAC Hero or pushed it any decent surf to notice any compression. However I reckon the grip is awesome. The clear railsaver tape comes standard, but strangely enough, there is about a one inch gap between the tape and the grip. The grip surface also tends to expose every paddle scrape so superficially, the finish doesn't look as good as new. But these scrapes disappear when the board is wet.
I love my TAC and reckon I have pushed it pretty hard. There are no compressions from where I stand while paddling or even surf. Will take some photos for you if you want? Often I will get asked how I stay on the board without wax! But sometimes I will where booties when it gets over head just for some extra grip. The board is definately a conversation starter with other surfers and even people on the beach.
Yep, my TAC hero looks great after 4 months of constant use, got a couple of minor compressions on the deck , but only noticable with a very careful look. The deckgrip works a treat if I have one complaint it's a bit rought on the knees and can be a bit slippery when trying to get back on your board when wearing a lycra, funnily enough no probs with a wetsuit.
Dunno about the "big easy" 12' by 32 myself....if a big wave lands on it could be "easy broke"...but ok if you choose your surf conditions carefully I guess
