What a traumatic situation to be in....sort of a big contrast between chuck patterson standing on his sup photographing a shark...and the other scenario where a shark actually bites your board in half & takes your leg too.
Not being glib here...totally feeling for the family & friends of the deceased....

I know that if i am out with other people I don't give a thought to predators....but if out by myself "every bird sitting on the water" can look like a fin in some situatiions

Sad news and a harsh reality. They say you have more chance of getting struck by lightning then being attacked by a shark, but it still sucks when it happens

Really feel for the guy and his wife. RIP

I always surf Huzza's and both South and North Point.

Scary, I know sharks are always out there and you have more chance of getting hit by a coconut but it is still chilling when you hear it happen at a break you go to.

Yep R.I.P He was not out on his own my mate Eddie was surfing about 100 m away at Huzza's , the guy was out at Southpoint. Heaps of seals around getting chased and acting weird , Ed and 3 other guys helped the guy to the car park, horrific wounds apparently

Hey Brooko, please pass this onto your mate that he is a true legend for his efforts today. Its not until your faced with such tragic circumstances that a true man steps up and your mate did just that.

Said before but RIP Brother

I was out there on my own last Friday morning while 2 others surfed Huzzas. I love that wave. Sick SUP wave. After about an hour of over head high sickness, Rob (the bloke who saw the attack from his balcony and rushed down there to begin CPR) paddled out to join me. He was interested in my board. He couldnt believe how loose it looked for a 9'8 on the wave.

This morning I got a call from my brother in law who lives in Margs telling me of Nicks death. My brother in laws, sister in law was watching her son surf Huzzas from the carpark when it happened. She also helped with CPR.

From having just been there and knowing a few people who were directly involved with his rescue has really hit it home for me. The community spirit down there is amazing. Lets hope this kind of spirit continues to spread on and off the water. We all love the ocean and its power which draws us in. Ive always felt a sense of connection to it wether Im surfing, windsurfing or stand up paddle surfing.

Rest in peace Nick and I hope to feel your presence on the water next time Im out there

Tragic event for sure. RIP.

Makes us all think how lucky we are. I was living in MR in 2004 when the last attack happened, certainly shakes the entire town. Let's hope it is the last one - Gracetown has had it's share of tragic events.
