August is a great month you'll have BULK FUN hope you get to meet the Hawaiians its the best week ever

I think it's easier for a windsurfer to learn downwinding than it is for a downwinder to learn windsurfing..

meh, I sold all my windsurfing gear cause any sport that requires me to have a large trailer is probably not the sport for me. I have found downwinding meets all me wind related needs.

Sold my windsurfing gear to but my first SUP. Don't regret it as the paddling has been a life changer but REALLY miss it.

husq defend it all you like but where we sail you needed a spread of three sails, to cover your various wind conditions. Most people will have 2 boards as a minimum, this is from experience, a slalom or free race board and a wave board. To have 3 sails I then had 2 masts, 2 booms, so that I could have multiple sails rigged as conditions might change or I might want to sail different types of boards in one session. Lets not even get started with the different fins that you would travel with so that if you were on your freerace or slalom board you could match to your sail. Oh then there is the other ancillaries. like mast bases etc. So for the record I had a Starboard Futura 133 and a Starboard Kombat 105, I had a 5 a 5.8 a 6.5 and a 7.5 as sails and then 2 booms and 2 masts.

Husq as for carrying the kit, I had a kit bag which weighed in at around 25kg which had to be lifted up on top of the car. Having a van which had a single row of seats was never an option as I have had a growing family. Like I said too much gear too much mucking around and too much packing and unpacking. SUP is superior, 2 boards, 2 paddles. Life is good. Do I miss sailing nope not at all.

After watching this I'm keen to dust off my old windsurfing gear and see just how fast I can go on my new Naish 10'6".5 Nalu..

Top speed was 71km not bad on water.

Nope. Never again do I go down that path. A surf SUP and a flat water SUP and that my friend is that. No more lugging gear, no more finishing a session and thinking dam now I have to pack all this stuff up, no more thinking about which fin matches which sail. So sail on lads but I don't miss it. Btw could I just point out the bloke that chipped me for not needing a trailer is driving a van, my point is yet again made.

You have no idea why I choose to drive a van, I still only have one board and 2 sails, and lot of left over room in the car. So nah mate, your point isn't made at all.

Hey downwinder, very cool that your giving it a go. I'm a windsurfer who now dw's most arvos instead of windsurfing at my local. But drive to north wa and windsurf cross off wind and lefts that go forever an nothing compares to it. Windsurfing will change your life once u get all time wave conditions. Get a high volume wave board, 3 sails that fit one mast and ur set! Stick at it, your gunna love it:)

Thanks marcus hopefully I learn quickly I'm five 0 by the time I'm Seventy I should have it wired.
My worst scenario would be going Windsurfing the left on Namotu Island Fiji with Scotty and I end up way out in the middle of the Wilks Pass Channel with an outgoing tide ( e.g. p###ing into the wind ) and here come a 6 metre Timmy The Tiger Shark.
