The comp will be held over the Saturday and Sunday. More than likely the race will be held on Sunday but this will be determined by the forecast for the weekend. The heats for the surfing will be held Sat and the finals Sunday. Usual kick off is about 8am, maybe earlier Sunday. Once again weather permitting.

How was the weekend? Did you get any waves? Was there more of a traditional BOP race this event? When is the final in Mandurah?

Hi Cam

Weekend at Denmark was awesome as usual. Had great waves Wednesday to Friday, Friday was exceptional, Perfect Parry's. Had another good turn out for the Open mens, Jakovich brothers where going off, they are world class Brett Mason was surfing really well, Rick Jakovich 1st with Brett second and Jake Jacko third. Hard spot to have a proper 5km race so we just did a 2.5 km sprint with a punch out through the surf at the start which was interesting. Mandurah state round is on at the end of June 23rd to 24th I think, Geraldton is the next comp (allways a great event so many quality uncrowded waves to be had, no racing ) June 2 and 3. Will be sorting accomodation soon if anyone interested let me know.

I'll see you in Geraldton Rog, looking forward to it. Denmark was good fun, waves on Sunday were decent too, couldnt resist having a free surf instead of watching you guys race :)

The Geraldton comp is held by the Geraldton Longboarders club, if you google that you will find it, alternatively if you are on the Surfing WA website it has a link to the Gero comp. See you there. If you have any dramas email me and i will give you the details. If i was IT savvy I could put a link on here, but obviously I'm not.

If you are interested you can call me for details. I am the club treasurer and Brian Hood is preso. The sup event is filling up with only eight spots. It is the long weekend at the beginning of June. We usually have good conditions and the fellowship makes the event. Call me on 0409375704 if you want to enter. We run one sup event, 9' in various age groups and 8' in opens plus over 40. It runs over the Saturday and Sunday. The cost is $60 per event entered. John

Hi all,

Results, photos (more to come soon) and some commentary thanks to Surfing WA on Round 2:

"The weekend also included Stand Up Paddle Boarding (SUP) heats and racing. Considered to be one of the fastest growing segments of the sport, SUP competitor made their way to Denmark in record numbers.

In the SUP surf divisions; brothers Rick and Jake Jakovich (Gracetown) were unstoppable winning all their heats on route to the final. Rick was in blistering form in the final, opening the heat with an excellent 8.00 point ride and was then able to back it up on his final wave with a 7.00 to finish with a combined total of 15.00 pts (from a possible 20). Finishing in second was Jake Jakovich who came into the event as one of the hot favourites after winning the opening event in Yallingup. The two brothers now share the ratings lead after both winning an event each thus far.

Placing in third was 2011 SUP State Champion Brett Mason (Yallingup) with Rahn Goddard (City Beach) in fourth.

The Jakovich brothers power turns on their forehand and backhand, combined with their use of the paddle will surely see them as contenders come National Titles.

Amanda Griffiths (Cottesloe) won the SUP Open Women's final from Margaret River's Genene Berry in second and Michelle England (Scarborough) battled injury to finish in third, in what was WA's first ever women's SUP event to be contested."

FINAL ROUND 2 RESULTS:

Open Men SUP:

1. Rick Jakovich (Gracetown) , 2. Jake Jakovich (Gracetown), 3. Brett Mason (Yallingup), 4. Rahn Goddard (City Beach).

Open Women SUP:

1. Amanda Grififths (Cottelsoe) , 2. Genene Berry (Margaret River), 3. Michelle England (Scarborough).

O40 Men SUP:

1. Roger Goodwin (East Fremantle), 2.Wes Stanfield (Fremantle), 3. Peter Dunn (Cottesloe), 4. Chris Gage (Attadale).

SUP Battle of the Paddle:

1. Brett Mason (Yallingup) 18 mins, 15 sec, 2. Phil Berry (Margaret River), 3. Michelle England (Scarborough), 4. Roger Goodwin (East Fremantle).

Cheers
