It's not often we get an ideal northerly 25 - 30 knots and blue skies at sunrise, but today was that perfect Sunday morning. Here are some snaps...

Great shots, really like the 1st shot. Well worth the effort with the paddle cam.

The wind eased off around 11:00 then picked up by 1:00, smoothed out and swung NNW at a fairly steady 25-30+ knots. Was nobody tempted for a second run?

The BOM weather simulation was pretty much spot on. It swung more onshore and dropped off around 4:00 with some rain.

great pics PT, thanks for posting.

the white starboard pintale with the canoe bow , that the young lady was paddleing looks like a nice shape.

Is that an old or new shape ? what length and width is it?

Yes Mak, Robert De Niro (Rosscoe) is riding a newish JM, from his visit over Summer. (JM's visit! - De Niro was also in Melbourne, for a film shoot! Do you know why they were all in Melbourne? Because Melbourne is a cool place to visit ! )

On second glance Mak, the stickers are mostly related to Jamie's old board... and Warwick's big RPS sticker, due to his association with RPS! But mostly the rest is just "makers marks"...

Yes I knew the guy with the massive rps is connected, but from other posts out of vic, there's a bucket load of stickers on boards people paddle.
No big deal.

That's a Starboard Pin - it's an old shape, no longer available. It is 12'6" x 30".

Can't speak for anyone else but I went over the handlebars late in the run without a wetsuit and it was freezing. I didn't really thaw out until about 6pm. So no thoughts of a second run today. Besides, we did StKilda to Ricketts Point, which must be 17km so that was enough for today.

It was a cold Winter's morning here in Melbourne today and we still had a good turn-up for todays dawn down-winder.. We did a longer run going all the way to Rickets Point with a stop at Green Point where some pulled out and others joined in.

Here's a few pictures and vid.

Thanks for the reminder Stu!

My feet aren't connected to my brain so they didn't remind me to cover them up!
Daft thing is, I had my booties in the car.

Promise I'll wear them for tomorrow morning's HMB dawn session. Forecast is for a low of 5 degrees!

I wish I was there (kind of), haven't had a decent swim in PPB for a couple of weeks. In a perverse way I'm missing the thrill of the chill .

I'm in Rome on a work gig (pretty hard to complain about that really) but here's what the local waterway looks like today - the majestic river Tiber in summer - haven't seen a SUP on it yet - :

PT you need a little more of "nature's wetsuit" mate, after a dawn patrol dunking I'm pretty much warm again by breakfast

Thanks Mark.. I do get a kick out of knowing that.. and it's nice to know some people like to watch them and get something out of them.. .. I watch them myself and see what I do wrong and I'm sure that I let a lot of good ones slip by because this old 54 yr old body isn't fit enough to put in when it's needed.. or just a little lazy..

I'm no expert and learning all the time.. There's no doubt that the more you do them the better you get and I think one of the most important things is reading the water ahead and having patience.. Knowing when to go hard and when back off and wait for the right moment to go hard.. You learn to know what you can't get and not even try.. This saves your energy so you can really put in when you need to.. Also.. it's not about trying to catch the big ones.. but slot in behind them.

I now have a HD GoPro and soon hope to get even better DW footage that wont be so fuzzy.. I'm also going to try a chest mount and see how that angle looks hoping it may be a more natural point of view.
