Just spent most of the weekend working on a new paddle.

Timbers used on #2 paddle are Cedar, Pauwlonia and Balsa. All in 3mm sheets thanks to Grant Newby (Fish Fry organiser) laminated in Epoxy. There is also a couple of layers of Bullet proof vest fabric in the lamination, for real!

The pics below are still in the raw form, unsealed or glassed. You will need to use your imagination for the finished product. Weight must be below 1kg! No substitute for my C4 Carbons though.

Just needs a final sand, glass the blade possibly carbon on power face, glue on the handle and a couple of coats of epoxy to seal it all up. This one is for a friend that I owe a few favours so hopefully I get to paddle it also. He will glass it himself hence the unfinished pics.

#3 and #4 are an experimental DW paddle and a new OC blade. Just working with wood is very addictive.

No Kevlar, it's Innegra fibre. Quite a new fabric made from Polypropylene. It's layed between the Balsa and Pauwlonia. 2 layers total.

Don't pay too much attention to the lines in the blade, they're not even as the Balsa squished when I clamped it, the blade's actually quite straight.

Nice paddle
I make my own timber paddles as well. Very satisfying and the feel and flex is really natural.
Cheers Scott

Thanks Scott, I started #3 this afternoon and avoided some of the pitfalls of #2. Also just got off the phone with McGuiver (local surfcraft manufacturer renowned for his composites knowledge) and learnt a thing or two about laminating Balsa to make it easier to sand.

Super excited about this one.
