Where do you live Mikesup?.. If you're local to me I'd be happy to help you with it.
First I'd spray and wipe with windex window cleaner.
You can either cut the hand hole out later or before.. I've done both and doing it before is a little better IMO but pretty tricky.. See first pic.
You normally stand about center of the hand hole so the side ramps on the pad should be evenly spaced either side (forward and back) to the hand hole position.
If it was me I'd leave a 1/2" gap between the two pieces but if you want to but them up against each other that's OK.. See the gaps in my tail pad.
Hope this helps some.. I would also recommend you do what Todd does in this vid by slicing lightly with a razor blade about a 1" strip along the inner edge of the backing paper and stick it first and then reach under and peal the rest off.. This vid shows it very well.
