I poped into my local sup store the other day and they were unpacking some new boards.

This is the new Coreban Vision.. It's a BOP style 12'6" board.

I was amazed at how big and deep the nose was but when I checked out the rear it was the Jennifer Lopez of sup boards..

I'll be able to answer that question after this weekend because SHQ have a demo day to test paddle them on this Saturday here in Melbourne..

Looking forward to trying the 14' Dart.. and the 14' Edge..

Hi Greg,

The 12'6" Vision is VERY stable, as is the 14ft Dart. The Edge is a little tippy but no more than any other 14 of similar dimensions. The Turbo on the other hand is a VERY unstable board. It comes with four smaller chine fins as well as the rear centre fin to try and add some stability.

The Vision is well suited to heavier riders and is fairly quick, weird (not difficult though) to pivot turn as it has so much volume in the tail.

Edge is suitable for most weights and strengths of paddler. The bow cuts nicely through the water into a wind and chop.

The Dart is super stable and excellent for down winding. Sort of like a giant fast surfboard. I was able to paddle this board faster than all the others I tried on the day. I paddled the full carbon version and it was very light and responsive. Great board!

We did a review on all of the Corebans ages ago here: www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Stand-Up-Paddle/Review/2012-Coreban-Sigma-Range-of-Race-Boards-now-here/?SearchTerms=2012,Coreban,sigma

It's the SHQ shop on Beach Rd in Sandringham and they do have a big range of SUP brands including Naish, Coreban, JP/Cabrinha, Bark and JM (Surftech), PSH and NSP.

i wish some one without a connection would give a decent review of these boards.

so far we've had 'vague' reviews from people with 'interests'. haven't really heard from anyone who's brought one- they seem to have disappeared

for boards that were hyped up it's become really strange.

i've heard from a few sources one of the bop boards is all right, the dart being a bit slow and the rest aren't that good.

so far i can only assume those sources are right

how about some video, independent reviews, how they rate against other boards in the same class etc!!!!!!!

Mark, I have paid for all my Coreban's and after having most name brands of some type previously, I can tell you I go back for more of the Coreban product because I personally like them better than others.

My previous posts on Coreban's are hardly vague so I can only assume you are not referring to mine ?

My opinions are;

Starboard construction and finish are not worthy of the price normal punters pay.

Naish are targeting high end riders and the user friendly boards account for only 20% of their board list.

SIC are good but heavy and the width of some boards does not suit heavier / unstable riders.

Fanatic are great - no more to say.

Surftech offer a good range and superb quality and finish however their availability in Australia is limited to what boards they import per shipment (ie; if you chose 5 boards from the web page, chances are only 1 or 2 would be here in Oz).

PSH / JP / WoW.....I could go on - all make the choice hard and all have negatives and positives...go out and demo, don't wait for others to post online as their opinions may differ from yours.

Coreban boards are user friendly, first quality construction, super easy to carry (with the great handles), easy on the eye.....only the 14' Turbo is 'high end' and although the prices could be questioned being at the pointy end of the $ range for race boards, the proof is in the pudding and I can tell you that for each board I've bought, I've been totally stoked and happy to then order my next addition.

I must say that the 'powers that be' for Coreban both her in Oz & oversea's are not pro-active in selling their product as well as others in the market like Fanatic, Naish, Star-board etc....which is to their detriment.

However, I'm like someone who buys a Holden or Ford then never waivers once they catch the bug...for me it's Coreban !......everyone's got an opinion - that's mine.

oooops, now i remember your vid. yes it looked pretty good catching those peelers.

you looked pretty good and seemed to enjoy it. but how does it go against other boards in it's target class?

now that's only one board out of the entire sigma navel range- what about the others.

i understand some boards are 'targeted' for mid range paddlers, some novice paddlers and some for racers. my point is don't knew were the sigma range sit.

thxs for your time and reply

ps you would be hard pressed to find a more stable board then the 17'4 bullet imo and the weight is very good for it size. i found it hard to get used to any another board after being on a dw on that board.

the 12'6 is a touch heavy, but built for the surf zone. they do have a lightweight carbon model but as with all the other light weight carbon numbers around the traps you take a risk in the surf zone.

and you have to remember its a big volume board and can support the big 12'6 paddler so its going to weigh a bit more than say a small volume starby bop
