I believe Laurie sells a key lock device through this site - worth supporting I think.

I went out one day with my key in a waterproof bag in my pocket, bag popped and the central locking of the key no longer works. But the key itself will still unlock the car and start it, so no biggie, I just don't have remote central locking anymore.

I went to the local locksmith and had a non electronic key cut for $35. Will open the doors but won't start the car, means I leave the regular key in the car so I guess that's not great if someone broke the window. But it's nice to just put the key on the loop on my boardies and not worry about - also because I'm so scatter brained and always need to go back to put my thongs in the car or get my hat I don't have to go through the hassle of unlocking something like the trailer hitch.

Maybe the perfect solution would be trailer hitch and dumb key - but boy that would really confuse me..........

The sooner we can get some chip embedded like the dog chip that you can program the car too the better as far as I'm concerned. Imagine - just walk up, open the door, drive off, waterproof and almost vague proof (you still have to find your car!)

Don't laugh, the number of times I've come out of the pub and wandered around the car park for ten minutes trying to remember where I parked...

All I say is thank dog for remote activated burglar alarm!

But yeah I use a dumb key too. will open and start car just not deal with burglar alarm.

Reminded me of the dyslexic agnostic who didn't believe there was a dog.

Thanks I've been looking for such a gadget.
Just make sure you get back to your car with enough light left to see and enter the combination.

I would have thought that the 'Surf Lock" that you can get a most surf shops is a easier option. www.rexnet.com.au

I have always just gone to Mr Minute had a wet key cut for $15-20 off the electric key and hidden my keys, wallet and phone in different spots around the car. I lock the car with the wet key and hook it on my boardies, wetty or rashy key loop. I quite obviously advertise the locked car with the key I am taking with me thing also, especially anywhere around Coolangatta.

Around here the thiefs watch the car parks for the easy steal and the suckers. So many people still hide keys in wheel arches etc that the junkies hit them first. Who else dissapears for 2-3 hours at a time leaving their wallet, phone, ipod, camera etc in the car?? It's a gold mine!

Leaving a key in a surf lock outside of the car seems like a red flag to a bull to me as well. I don't know how strong they are but it wouldnt be much fun trying to unlock one after it had been smashed by a sledge hammer or bolt cutters a few times.

The towbar lock is a great idea - sure beats any surf lock (if you have a tow bar).

The KeyPod Seabreeze has is also excellent .. and it's a bit longer than the surflock, so you can fit holden keys & other bits in easier.

I'm a convert, and won't be without one now - these key locks are especially great when there's a bunch of you - if everybody in the group knows the combo, they can get in the car to get/put goodies...

Read up here: www.seabreeze.com.au/Shop/Scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=32

@CMC: I put my KeyPod of the muffler bracket - it's invisible to passers by .. like you, I don't want it hanging out in open view as a "temptation"
