My wife just bought me an SUP board for my birthday (what a good girl!). It's a Jimmy Lewis "All Round" 10'6. I have just taken it for a couple of lazy cruises on the river and it is super-stable for my 78kg. My intention is to get it out in the surf a bit, but I also want to take my two-year-old out cruising on flat water on it as well.

I want to buy her one now, and want to make sure I don't make a mistake. I'm thinking that if I get her a 10' "Surf" version, she will still find it very stable (at 57kg), but then we can both also use it in bigger surf when we get a bit better at it.

My background is windsurfing not surfing, so there is heaps to learn!

Am I making any grave errors, or am I on the right track here?

Check out the 11' NSP...it's much more fun with the bigger boards IMO..

Maybe even the big Naish AST 11'6" and you can paddle and/or sail it with your two year old sitting on the front..

The Starboard 11'2" would also be good (you can also sail them)...There's heaps of good boards out there these days.

10 ft JL is a nice board, at your weights it would be fine. My wife at 55kg used one and loved it. Bit small for me at 110kg though. Very good in bigger waves.

I know a guy who started on one, he was 75kg, and is doing really well. This is Kim 5th time on a SUP 10ft JL.

Cheers Andrew
