I just got this message from the GSI guys at Torquay.

"SUP Rally Day with Surfing Vic at Cosy Corner for the 18th of Oct..Just a fun day with a small distance Paddle (couple of k's), and an expression session with a judging theme similar to the Mambo, where everyone who surfs votes the best performer. ..We'll have Demo boards etc. Basically the idea is to see how much interest there is out there and if the people doing it want to see some distance comps , surf comps or both"

It sounds great..I'll be there and I hope we get a good turn up.

I'll pass on more info as I get it..and look out for fliers on your local surf shops.

For those who don't know Cosy Corner is in the background of my second pic..looking left from Pt Danger..It's a perfect SUP spot.

I'll be there DJ. I should think Ryan will be interested, and my daughter Kate will be back from overseas, and she'll want to have a go.
If we can get a few people it will be great.

DJ,
A little way off yet but sounds promising.

Brooko, we should pencil this one in?

Ha.. ..No I don't think we should expect Bonga to be there..But it would be a real treat if he was.

I'm not 100% sure but I think JB has asked if he could join in and bring all the Naish range down for demo'ing and make it a GSI/Naish event.

The bigger the better I reckon..and mighty nice of the GSI guys to let Naish join in.

All we need now is the Starboard and the C4 guys to be there..

I'll confirm this once I know for sure or JB or Matt can chime in and comment.

Hi Dave ,

No , but judging from the response from the new posters in our stores "SUP RALLY" will be huge .. !!
High tide has also been very well planned by Matty Martin from Global Surf Industries at 1.36pm on Sat 18th (perfect for Cosy corner).
We just need a light breeze , 4-6 foot swell & plenty of cold beer.

That's great news..We will have almost all brands to demo back to back.

I hope a lot of 'Breezers' make the effort to turn up...and October 18 is just around the corner.

I've also just heard that Samantha from Kialoa paddles is coming down from Sydney with some paddles for people to demo.

So if you've wondered what all the fuss is about with these great paddle's here's your chance.

She should even have one of the new Kialoa Methane paddles that's been developed with Blane Chambers at Paddle Surf Hawaii.

I can't wait to try that one... It just keeps getting bigger and bigger...

I'm also keen to try one of Bob McTavish's new SUP boards.

Hi Kevin ,

This event from GSI will have something for everyone ..... Demo out from entry level boards / paddles from most major brands ,to a short paddle race & expression wave session for all .

It's all about having fun !

No more news at this stage , think the car parks will be full .

Some bad news from the West unfortunately we won't be able to make it over for the event with all the Starboard demo boards.

I think Fab from RPS wll still be heading down with a few Starboards.

Hopefully we will still get over to Melbourne and Torquay in the coming months.

Sorry about that.

Check out our competition on Seabreeze and you may be able to win one, which is a lot better than demoeing one.

No probs Ian ,thanks for letting us know.

The new Starboard range looks amazing , im sure there would be plenty of interest to demo some of new board range in the future here in Victoria .

Look forward to catching up with Fab and the RSP crew next weekend.

Hi Casso ,

No probs will make sure i take some video action.

Champcrow ,

The distance paddle race last time i spoke to Matty Martin (GSI), was from Cosy Corner to Fisho's beach and retun . So this is a short distance race so everyone can have a go.......approx 2-kms total.

Going to paddle the race track tonight to see if i can make it !!

Hey DJ, I'm pretty sure that guy from Melbourne who got that 18' Penetrator is taking it to Torquay for the Sup rally so you should get to see it. I'll also be finished Woogies board tonight, just fine tuning the new steering system and will post some pics or a video of the testing. Has a few modifications since the last one.......Stuey

Beaudy.. Thanks. I'll be looking out for it.

btw Stuey.. How do you think your board would have performed in an event like the Battle of the Paddle held last week.

I know it's a totally different cup-a-tea to downwind racing but just wondered what you think.

The Penetrator isn't strictly a downwind board, that's just when they're most fun. I think a slippery efficient hull will go best in all conditions and that glide definetly helps you out when punching into the chop but the "Battle of the Paddle" beach runs would have been way awkward with such a large craft. I tend to try and take it easy when carrying one around coz even though they are light, at around 12 1/2 kgs anything that long carrys the risk of poking someones eye out!!.......Stuey
