Hi this is for all Long Board SUP ers to answer. What is the best Long Board SUP you have ridden in small waves 1meter or less ones that hardly look at if they are going to break like Perth s Dutchies waves ?.
Is it easy to catch a wave with?
Is the entry a glide onto the wave or paddle your heart out?
How does it go on windy days?
Does it turn easy if you ride it properly?
Do you own this type of board?
Theres a few questions but I know people who like me would like to know genuine experiences & opinions.
Cheers for anyones input thanks.

The Jimmy Lewis 10'4".

It nose rides that good you can hang 20! Really good weight for allrounder, turns pretty
good, catches waves with ease, stable etc etc. I wish I had of learnt on this board.

Hey Col..

Like Greenroom said id definately look at the larger starboards.. I bought my 10.5 drive for exactly the same reasons.. Ive since moved on to smaller boards in bigger surf but i still love getting back on the 10.5.. IMO it is the perfect board for a perth summer, go's well in chop, very stable but still turns with ease.. The is quite a few people useing them in perth and all seem very happy..

the Naish 10'6 rock's. I love my 9'0 Nalu, but i would really class it as my performance longboard, still holds great for five's and tens, but off the tail it is a speed machine being so narrow. But the 10'6 is awsome, It great from tip to tail, has amazing drive through the turns and being 28 wide it really turns rail to rail with ease. And the most surprising thing about the board, the bigger it get's it keeps on charging. I guess It really shows Dave Kalama's Design influence in it. So I really would say its great from 1 to 12 foot, or as big as you want to push it....

Best Board i've ridden: 10' x 28 x 4 1/4 DMS surfboards PU/Poly Custom. 2 1/2 years of loyal service to me.

If you want glide and balance like a LB IMO you really can not go past PU rather than EPS. They are heavier without doubt but with the right level of glassing they just have a far better 'feel' all round. Surfing on the rails and driving not pivoting. They also hold rail down the line far better. Paddle better in chop etc etc.

I ride a super light EPS now and on certain days I wish I didnt sell the DMS as it really went amazing. But if you want Ultra High shortboard performance at this stage anyway EPS is a better option. Just make sure you deal with companies with reputable shapers at the helm. C4, PSH, or most Aussie shapers into it are the GO.

I love surfing my 14' glide in tiny surf on glassy days, super easy to catch waves, turning is a little problematic, but that doesn't matter too much as nobody else is usually out.

Cool thanks for your replies I have a 10' Naish Mana just lacks the glide to get on small waves yes if they have a good lip forming I get them. What I am trying to find is a board that you do not need to bust the gut to make something out of nothing. Iam gonna try A coreban 11'6" cruiser, a Starboard 11'2"blend & any thing else that might do the trick. By the way the Mana has a big rocker not flat bottom great 1m plus, wide but I dont fall of much either. Col.D

Is it easy to catch a wave with?

YES!

Is the entry a glide onto the wave or paddle your heart out?

GLIDE!

How does it go on windy days?

Not too bad. Being 30'' wide makes balancing easy!

Does it turn easy if you ride it properly?

YES! Once you find the many sweet spots on the 11'2 you will be riding this board like its an 8' mal

Do you own this type of board?

YES! I have been riding the 11'2 for a few years now.

As a longboarder this is very easy for me to answer. "So far" the only sups I have ridden that have a genuine longboard feel are 1)Laguna Bays and 2) 10.6 Ron House (Riviera).

I have spent a bit of time on a 10.6 Laguna and a 10.0 Laguna and they both have an amazing mal like feel in the water. They don't seem affected by wind or side chop like so many sups seem to be and they just have a special feel about them on the wave that you can only get from a longboard - you know - the glide and grace of a bigger board but still with the ability to stall and cutback and trim and walk and nose ride and just enjoy to ride. I have ridden both boards at Noosa and Byron and on my local beachy and they really are easy paddling, stable and responsive boards that turn on the rail and will go as hard as you want or cruise the points all day.
I was also lucky enough to borrow a 10.6 Ron House a month or so ago and surfed my local for a few days running and this board was also a real gem to surf. It paddled really well and got into waves easy and really surfed like a bigger 9.6 to 10.0 mal and was a sweet board. It wasnt as stable as the Lagunas when kick turning or in chop but still had a real longboard feel to it.

I suppose the Lagunas surf very much like a Laguna Bay Longboard in that they are fun and progressive and give you a real "in touch with the wave" feel when surfing them. Another comparison would be that the bigger laguna surfed very much like, say a McTavish 9'6 Fireball whereas the smaller one felt more like a Mctavish Original.
Hope this helps.

Now imagine the Laguna 10' in PU just like a Mal. That would feel exactly the same.
