Lets get a list of best technique, or SUP tips people have been given.

After doing my first genuine DW yesterday, my favourite tip i've been given was, when in the ocean and you come off, don't stand up dead still, put a few paddle strokes in on your knees onto a bit of a run and then get up... Thanks TrevT for that one, there would have been a heap more swear words yelled if it wasn't for that tip.

anyone else......

Too Late. Gotcha.
Mate said to me, "Come down to Terrigal Lagoon, they are having a Demo Day", by far the best advice, I've got in a long time.

Bend knees & don't look at your feet.

Also, one of the best re; technique was - don't paddle using (just) your arms - try to plant the paddle in the water & pull your body forward using your core...reach forward & don't paddle past your feet.

You're more stable when your paddle is in the water then when it's not - helps with bracing, etc. in more challenging conditions.

Use your back/ lats rather than arms (as noted above) as the bigger muscles don't tire as quickly.

Let the board move under you - it will stay upright on its own, you're the one that causes it to flip.

Got these from my days paddling outriggers but they apply just the same.

Tully St John telling me many moons ago that they had learnt how if you pulled the paddle to help you to turn the board on waves you could move the board through turns better.

For me it was revolutionary. Most people were dragging the paddle to help them turn before that from what I seen. It made slow carving turns become rail turns.

Go hard or go home.....remember the big waves are more afraid of you than you are them.

Dont go too small with your fins if you want to avoid ugly looking dish pan turns instead of buryung the rail and moving buckets.

Oh and never bail always try and pop over white water no matter how big it is

That demo was in November last year. They do have someone at the lagoon every Saturday and Sunday from about 8-9am onwards. Mostly board hire and lessons.

23rd is a go guys but more details will come out tomorrow.
So far though Naish, Starboard, Fanatic, JPA, Ke Nalu, Kialoa will all be there.
Looks like Jason Polakow, Keahi and Geoff Brean will all be there ripping up the lake.
Sam.
