Anything that avoids getting a hernia carrying your heavy, oversised board to and from the beach is something worth looking at.....

However,..... what do you do with the barknuckle while you are in the water - looks too big to put down the front of your wettie.

I haven't found a better or more simple way of carrying your board than inserting 2 leash plugs placed in the center of your deck with a loop through each - slide your paddle through each loop and carry your board using your paddle that way.

I've seen vids of people using those and to carry their board to the water and that's fine.

But people leave them on the deck of their board while paddling.. I'm not sure about that.. I'd hate to fall onto it or trip on it.

isnt that just the same as having a handle in the board? i see no difference... still going to have to lug the thing no matter what... why not just make a set of wheels with support for the tail of the board to rest on and drag it that way... no need for carrying and would certainly be lighter with the support of the wheels... its all physics... might be better with that barnackle thing up the nose of the board when dragging....

thats my 2cents anyway...

We've got some videos where we attach a camera ( gopro in this case ) to our standup paddleboard with the BarKnuckle. Works perfectly!

The BarKnuckle is a great way to get a handle on your big ass board as well as attaching wahtever you need to your board (fishing gear, cooler, lifejacket, camera, etc...)

Why???

Just use the handle that's built into the board?

I imagine it would be fun to have 2 of them and try and be spider man and climb a wall or something. If you were to have the barknuckle in the right place to carry the board you would trip over it, if you have it on the front like in the clip it would be harder to carry than actually just putting the board on your head. Good idea, to tie an esky to though.

Harden the f1ck up princess chuck it over the shoulder and get it in the water. We are only talking 10 to 12kg. Got handles in my boards but prefer the shoulder for long carries seems more natural.

Just one more thing on your board to cut or bruise you , I suppose you could hook your back foot under it when your hanging 5.

Perfect if ya taking the family to the beach. Can leave it with the wife and kids while your out paddling.

Just get a kid on each end of the board and get them to carry it down for you.

I got one of these for the 800m walk from home to the beach.

Got one of those too (but without the fanny pack) almost 2 years ago to accompany my "big ass" Jimmy Lewis 11' (no handle). Only used it a coupla times, & now not at all, but would be a handy accessory at one of those breaks that involve several hundred metres of walking to get to the surf.
Bugger lugging it on the shoulder for that distance, already got a stuffed neck from failed mogul heroics in the 80's

Is it just me? I find the built-in handles useless for carrying the board more than 50 metres. I have fairly long fingers so only my fingertips fit inside the handle and they get tired really quickly carrying a 12kg board. The handle is only useful for the short carry to and from the water.

I don't understand why manufacturers don't build leash plugs into the decks of their boards. That's the only carrying system that is convenient, works well for any kind of distance and it deals with the paddle as well.

12 kg is a heavy board. My board is 7 kg with a built in handle and I can take it on the longest of walk ins - no fatigue.

My previous board was a heavy one and had 2 leash plugs a metre apart in the centre and loops in each and thread the paddle through. Effective- but still a heavy board.

Now you're just bragging about your new Snow board.

Surf specific sub-10' boards may be under 10kg but most medium to large production boards are over 10kg.

The Starboard Whopper is 13kg. All the Glides are over 12kg. I have read the 9'5" Mana is over 11kg.

Definitely SUPs have to get lighter but the in-built handle needs an edge profile to wrap you fingers around and ujse your hand to carry it. I think even 7kg would get a bit uncomfortable if I had to carry it with my finger tips.

You'd think they could design a more ergo hand hole that's wider at its deepest point so that your fingers curl a little and they would not want to slip out.

Just whack a stamp on a sub-8 kg board and pop it in the mail.

You only need the finger well on one side. Lefties can carry the board backwards. That will save 50 grams.

Instead of designing weird apparatus for carying a heavy board.........how about just getting a light board? (AND....enjoy the additional light board advantage)

(thats 1 finger & no strings attached....promise)

I thought there would be a stream of adverse comments about the "1 fingered lift"?

Maybe everyone has gone out and tried to HOLD their board with out streched arm & found they couldnt do it with FIVE fingers?

(Why would you want a board that god dam light anyway)

Dean, weighed my board tonight and it's around 6ish (scales are a bit sketchy) not painted and without grip.
I decided to stop trying to fix my stuff ups and just get it finished. I've learnt what to do to avoid these problems
with the next board.

So long as your board floats & is water tight is what matters, I'm shure you will have fun on it at 6kg, well done.
Regarding stuff ups, it's not as easy as it looks to make a flawless board, so if you can learn from mistakes, the next one will be better.

You can get afloor tile lifter from Bunnings that looks suspsciously like the barknuckle...I reckon it might be a tad cheaper too......

haha....thats what i was thinking! My mate is a glacier (mirrors, splash backs and shower screens) SK Glass if anyone is looking for someone and he has somne similar tools. He'll give 'em away for an simple bathroom job!

I tried Viagra but I had had to walk sideways when I carried my board down to the beachand sunnies so noone would recognise me.

Hey Dale.. Can you tell Dean to make those hand holes a little bigger..

This is how light my new 9'er is.. .. It's about the same weight as a beach towel..
