Not SUP but still worth a watching IMO.

Laird SUP'ed the English channel for this cause.. I have to deal with it at work (the hospiital code grey team) every now and then.

Most people (including me) don't know much about it.

My son has aspergus and was diagnosed when he first went to school. To be honest it was a brutal blow at the time as all parents want their child to be perfect. What I have learned since he was diagnosed (7 years ago) is that he is perfect. He does see things differently, but that's a good thing, he has given me a completely different view of the world.

That is a great clip I may even buy the movie when it comes out.

Certainly an unusual nuance, that some people suffer/benefit from. I've always thought of autism as kids who like water and things that spin. I never gave a thought as to what happens to them as they get older and how they integrate with the people close to their lives. I'd like to think they end up leading productive lives, which a few posters have re-affirmed. I guess that's what makes the fabric of humanity so wonderful.

It comes in more flavours than Baskin Robbins...there are Aspies living among you who aren't savants but manage careers, marry well, live in leafy suburbs and raise happy, healthy, kooky aspy kids of their own. For many it comes down to how you can learn to manage it. There are much, much worse things to have.

From what I know.. Don King is the famous water film camera man (not Mike Tysons manager) and he lived near Laird on Maui and his son played with Lairds kids.. Then one day (when about three I think) Don's son became Autistic and did not recognize his parents and became violent.. Don wanted to make a film about Autism but could not raise the money.. Laird stepped up and said I'll help raise the money.. He rode his bike from London to the water.. Then paddled across the English Channel .. Then rode his bike to the center of Paris.. All making enough money to help Don make his film.. I have not seen it.. It's called "My beautiful Son".. This was back in the very early days of SUP and he paddled the big 12'2" Laird board that was one of the first SUP boards on the market.. Amazing effort I think.
