At last we have a good hand-hole.. Today I was checking out a new Naish Mana and noticed that they now have a new hand-hole that you don't feel like your fingers will ever want to slip out of.. It's hard to get a pic that shows just how deep is goes to the side but here's a few anyway.. Let's hope other brands do the same.

hey DJ it's called the "Ledge" handle. I assume this is what you mean? The soft tops also come with this handle. See here:

I guess that depends on how zealously Naish protects its patent (pending).

That'd be nice.

Is it in the right spot when the board has grip, fins and legrope on?

This board was a 10' Mana and it was spot on (same as with my Mana)..

I wish it was spot on on my 14' Javelin.. It's a bit off.. .. but I'm glad they got it right with the 17..

DJ, while your there, can you explain the naish glide to me.

Was in the shop looking at the bark and jamie mitchell boards

Was told 14 ft for cruising and 12ft for racing ?

I was lost in all the info, And the price of naish is much better

Is the glide a race board or a cruiser, Or does this depend on length

In my opinion, anyone telling you a 12' Glide is a race board is having you on. The race board from Naish is the 12'6" Catalina.

I think they were refering to the mitchell 12ft

Im tempted in one of these boards, few race /events going on this yr

I guess a race board is not as friendly as a cruiser

So i guess in the naish range, There is cruiser boards and race boards

Is the glide old now?

Would a race board be hard work for most downwinders and events

BP,
The Glide 14 and 17 are designed for Down Winders.
The Javalin 14 is designed for flat water racing, with minimal rocker and a cutting/piercing nose.
Ditto for the Catalina, 12'6.
And as PT said, nobody is too sure about the Glide 12, but DJ had a good time windsurfing it !! I've heard the 12 surfs OK too. (I say "OK"). So the 12 might also be described as a bit of an accidental all rounder, surf, flat, cruise, race, windsurf, sight seeing.... Master of none ?

Thanks, so i would not race the 12 or 14 just for down winders etc and cruising

Just working out what i would need to used and buy

I would like to race it but also just do downwinders and cruise bodies of water

Confusing a little, Last time i looked at naish boards for this there was only the glide

the naish 14' is the perfect start up dw, flat water cruising whatever. it's very easy to dw on- thats a big bonus. get this one for your first board bp and forget the rest- seriously, lets not turn this into a debacle for once.meant in a nice way
cheers

upgrading or upsizing is up to you, but don't start on a tricky board. general consensus is the shaka pu makes a great dw paddle if you like to stick to the same brand- not to big, go for the lenght around 10" above the head

Thanks, I think it would have to be a naish paddle these are a lot cheaper here vs kialoa

A downwind board for me would just be a keeper, Not into racing it full time as such just a added bonus.

You mean upgrade to the javelin, More race board type
