Hi guys, I'm moving to Ettalong soon and as I was down by the water over the weekend I noticed what looked like SUPs way out in the harbour (this would be roughly between ettalong and Umina, but closer to Ettalong). There appears to be a few sand banks out there, and was just wondering if it is a good spot to paddle to? I also longboard, so am curious whether the paddle out is worth it, or stick to the SUP?
The waves didnt look super big, but seemed to be more consistant than anywehere else I looked at.
One of the worst spots around. Heaps of sharks, a sewage outfall, expensive parking, aggressive locals, rarely gets swell and you generally get shot if you mention it.
Good answer Johnny, & don't forget to mention half of the Northern Beaches turn up at the hint of swell
Surfed there between 1975 and 1985 and it was f"""ing brilliant. Didn't go in early morn or late arvo on the run out tide though!
Had 3 or 4 surfs per year - overhead and on the odd occasion double over head - longest barrels I have had on a board and then
got better when I WAS SURFING A WAVE SKI. Went 60 metres completely covered up -- hooted by the whole crowd -- great vibe!
Havn't been there in 20 years - looks like its changed - I'll keep the good memories and won't go back!

Hi I live and SUP at Umina and it's perfect as the swell is normally fairly small. Go on Facebook and join Umina Sup club.
I wouldn't worry about the surf.
there's a really good cafe at Ettalong nearby www.theboxonthewater.com/ (see you out there!) ![]()
Can't vouch for SUPing there, but it's an awesome wave to catch on a waterski!
Even more fun when the boat and skier get caught inside !!!
Haha, thanks for the comments guys - I'll make sure to avoid the place as it sounds really horrible. Anyway, I'll be too busy sipping my coffe from the shoreline. ;)
