So there's a chance I may relocate to Canberra due to work commitments. Currently living in Brisbane with access north & south to great surf beaches, plus a gorgeous freshwater Reservoir not far away.
Can anyone tell me if there are any reasonable, clean reservoirs or dams for SUP anywhere close to Canberra itself? From what I understand Lake Burley Griffin is a bit crap...
Noted that Batemans Bay et al is a couple hours drive away for a salt-water fix, but just wanting to pick anyone's brains for freshwater spots closer to Canberra.
Its a sad, sad day if it (the move) happens in relation to my paddling, but on the plus side it means more $$$ to try and convince my better half that I can spend on new boards!! ![]()
There is a small cohort of paddlers here that are out on Lake Burley Griffin a few times a week training. Water quality is not that bad, and you get used to the colour
. There is also a multitude of spots depending on wind direction, coffee or beer requirements post paddle. Winter temps suck, but you can easily paddle year-round with a bit of gear.
Check out the Fb or insta accounts of 'the SUP'ing Caveman' and the 'kayak cameraman' for pics of paddling on the lake.
