As the title suggests crew, I'm trying to find footage (YouTube or Vimeo) of down winders/riding swell in large conditions in open ocean. All the footage I've seen so far is small and choppy. What about big and rolly? Or maybe even a few getting the tops blown off them? I've given up on trying to find one board that does everything and I now have a 2011 Star 14 Open Ocean on order. Followed by a new wave board when the 2012 range is available. I paddle from Secret Harbour and am frothing at the opportunities we have down here for open ocean paddling. I'll just have to get a separate board for surfing.
So, if you know of any footage please post it here or PM me.
Be careful out there in the open ocean though. Heading off shore is more dangerous that it first looks. Lots can wrong, the wind can change, it is easier than you think to become permanently separated from your board....
I've seen some footage of an OC6 on a big open ocean swell runner in Hawaii... When you see that, you realise that SUP's are just different to an OC6.... And at the moment, DW SUP's are too much hard work in really big and really bumpy conditions. Top Heavy....
Some OC6 runners.... But this isn't the footage I was looking for.
Thanks Simondo. I won't be going anywhere without a legrope. Once I'm confidant enough to get out wide, I'll wear a PFD with a pocket flare like worn for offshore windsurfing events. And take water.
There really isn't much out there.. We hope to get some one day when it's ballistic on the bay..
Here's another older vid with a chick on a 14' Glide on a lake in the desert.

if you look at that epic oc6 crossing that travis was apart of, the footage of where it was really big, they didn't seem to go as well then it was more medium size. the canoe seemed to rock back and forward to much to get some real momentum going.
there's more to it then just being big imo
cheers
Is it "Rambo" (or similar) who did a few of those OC6 films?
Here's some mucking about with OC6 & SUP.
Thanks everyone, there's some good stuff in here. I think I am going to have to get a GoPro HD helmet setup.
