I thought the Ad was kinda funny.
Not so sure what all of the fuss is about. The fun has always outweighed the fact that people thought SUP was kinda gay and like giving up on surfing a long time ago. Like it or not, a lot of people still think this way. My own friends still give me crap about it even.
If you're overly concerned with what people think about you riding a SUP best take up a 'cool' sport. It's too crowded anyway.
One of the reasons I enjoy SUP is that I really dislike all the tribalized idiocy so common in surf culture. People disliking you because you're not a local or you dont rip hard enough or you ride a SUP/Mal/boogie/whatever is sheer idiocy. This ad is exacerbating those attitudes. Being on a SUP means I can paddle away from that crap.
I do not describe myself as a surfer in public because in my experience most surfers are idiots. I'm just a guy who happens to like to surf (and SUP).
I agree i find most surfers to be mindless zombies
I think we live in an age where the kids are trying to outcool each other. The surf industry has the average surfer exactly where it wants it
This is what you must wear, this is what you should ride. This is how you talk. These are your heroes
Noticed how every grom talks like Julian Wilson these days
And that is where my problem lies with advertisements like these
The Kids are watching and learning
We must hate these people now because Rusty told us too
It probably doesn't help that the odd SUP is acting like an idiot in the water as well
Its the same after the fast and furious movies came out
Notice all the kids speeding around in Lancers killing themselves
I know it might sound like a i'm taking it a bit too serious but i think the visual and print media have a lot to answer for
