Awesome.. The guy's a legend..

When people ask me why I like the Naish brand so much it's hard to explain.

I guess being such a big Robby Naish fan has something to do with it..

Yeah Robbies an inspiration!
More than anything though watching this makes me want to dust of the windsurfing gear and go flying across the waves and hit those moving ramps - yeeeew!
There is not other way to get launched like that!

2:05-2:36 - that's inspiration right there!

"You can go really, really fast & it feels even faster!"

In my case - I can go (imo) a bit fast & I feel like I'm breaking the sound barrier!

C'mon AA, get back on the pole!

I've got back into my slalom gear the past 3 summers' and always marvelled at how "FAST" you can go.

I'm the same AA. This made me want to dust off the old gear. I really miss those high speed runs off longie and Gerroa.

Sorry guys kiting sh1ts on poling bigtime.

Robbie inspired me to pole in the 80s but kiting is a big step up (except in cross off double overhead +)

So learn something new get a kite AA

^^^ Excuse me for my ignorance as I've never tried kiting, but imo I'd rather hit a ramp at speed & be launched vertical by the wave, using the sail to navigate the landing than simply be pulled up & down by kite lines.

That first sentence pretty well sums up why I never tried kiting, although it looks like it could be a bit of fun. The rude, juvenile & immature culture that many kiters portray creates an unfortunate stigma that attaches to the genuine kiters out there.

I'll stick with my poling thanks.

Tea bagging feels like cheating to me! The kite launches you. They are designed to fly.
Plus, you cant really surf a kite/board like you can a Windsurfer.
Nothing beast down-the-line wave sailing.

Not saying kiting isnt fun but there is a purity and rush like no other launching of a massive on-coming ramp at mach speed on gear thats not designed to fly through the air.

Hilly, maybe one day when I stop smashing myself up I'll give kiting a go again!
Maybe.......

Here are a couple of my windsurf edits for anyone looking for some home-grown and international sail powered action - windsurfing has changed a LOT in the last 6 years.

AA, You're starting to sound like me when I compare two other board riding disciplines. Got to admit though, things are pretty dire when North Narrabeen has a 3 foot wave running down the bank and instead of surfing it I paddle a 14 footer 5 km upwind just to do a downwinder.

What is a genuine kiter pray tell???

Just to let you in on a secret. I know AA pretty well and was continuing banter from when we over at the corona where he had a lay day sorry to offend the gentile poling folk out there.

And yes if you have not done it very hard to comment.

Hilly, I have to win my air ticket and entry this weekend at the 20 Beaches. If not I'll be working on it next year. Just get all of those sharks out of the water before I come over.

"Rude , juvenile and immature" - you should be proud of that Hilly. Well done last weekend mate.

Hey Hilly, I didn't call you that (not directly anyways). I just thought it necessary to explain one of the reasons I haven't tried kiting - apart from the obvious infatuation I have with windsurfing & knowing that there isn't a better buzz (although my first attempt at rock-climbing came very close!)

IMO it 'seems' like kiting has a habit of attracting said 'immature' types. I only know a few kiters & they're great guys, but over & over I've witnessed some idiotic behavior & vile language (mainly when having a bit of fun on SB).

As for you being 50...sounds like a good time to hand your little kite to the kids, dust off the board & rig (actually - get on some new kit, you'll be surprised how good new gear is!) & come play with the grown-ups.
