Big Left was only a little left today but it was a such a beautiful day and a mate and myself demo'ed the new 9' Starboard and the 9' Coreban boards.

I took some vid.. It's nothing flash.. but might be worth watching just for the music..

It's always a nice drive down through the golf course to get to the beach at Fliders and because it's such a long paddle to get out to Big Left you don't get many others out there.. We had the place to ourselves all morning.

Both boards were great.. We both thought the Starboard was much more stable (it's much wider) and probably the most fun and yet we both agreed that the Coreban was much faster on the wave and seemed to surf better than the Starboard.. I few waves is not enough to get use to a board and get the most out of it.. It was fun to demo them and it's amazing just how different all these boards are from each other.

It's just the name of the break.. You can usually go left or right at Big Left.. I think when it's bigger the right side closes out.. I'm not sure.

YEP.. depending on the Tides and Swell 'BIG LEFTS' closes out and sucks bone dry if you go right.. probably anything over 3 foot closes out going right.

Getting caught inside when a big set comes isnt nice at all..

Hit the water there at 4:45pm tonight and surfed till dark.

My son and mate out, no wind and even though it was full high tide there was enough swell for the sets to break. It was beautiful being 3/4 km offshore as the sun set and not cold at all (4:3 wettie helps, but I was getting hot, so falling off the 8'5" a few times wasn't a problem. Still getting used to the board). Only wish that I didn't have to go to work tomorrow, cos it could be really good tomorrow with less water over the reef, if the wind stays away.

For anyone who is interested, here is a vid taken a week before DJ's, with a little more swell, but still pretty small. Only my second GoPro vid and still getting this video editing thing worked out - the music was meant to start at the beginning of the film, but hey, just didn't seem to work out that way.

I should also say that, at about 2:24 in the vid - Brendan and I plan on getting a bit better at filming two on the same, doing the old under and over manouvre.

Great vid Ross.. Loved the cross-overs with Brendan.. and the view from the hang-glider launch spot was good with the wide angle of the GoPro.

Was that your 9.0 Hokua in the vid?

DJ - no, it is the 8'5" hokua. I have taken the board off Cam's hands. Had three surfs on it now - surfs beautifully, but I still have a bit of work getting used to it.

It's very different.. The hardest thing to get used to is the domed deck on the Coreban and I think it was slightly more stable but felt a little corky.. I think the Naish sits slightly lower in the water.. I love my 9.0 Hokua the most even though I find it hard work to paddle in choppy water..

I thought it looked a little shorter but wondered if it was the GoPro lens.

We had a little dabble down at Warratah bay on Saturday, with our sups and sails.
It was about 10kts and beautiful sunshine. Too messy for paddling, but good fun with the sails on.

G'day DJ.

We had a 9'8" Starboard Element, a !0' Tabou and an 8'5" RRD Wassup.
- 5.8 sails

There were some much better waves coming through than the video shows, but you can't expect the poor camera guy to give up his time to film all day.

I don't think there was any wind in Melbourne on Saturday, was there?

On Sat it was light much of the day a bit easterly and even a little west when I was out paddling at Black Rock. Came up a bit from the SE on dusk.

Sunday was beautiful. Light offshore all day. Great waves down at Woolamai.
