I like to tell people that Porto (or Oporto) is probably the best SUP destination in Mainland Europe. Easy and cheap to access from almost any European major city (and many from other continents). The airport is just 15 minutes from the city center (and accessible by tram), we have a wide and safe beach for SUP in the city (and it's where our SUP Center is), beaches with less crowd and perfect waves just 15 minutes away, perfect downwind runs that can extend indefinitly (our coast faces west and the predominant wind in the afternoon is from the North (the famous "nortada") with N/NW swells, and rivers, lots of rivers: the Douro River that crosses the city and its World Heritage location and its numerous affluents (Inha, Paiva, Sousa, Arda), where you can peacefully paddle in the middle of the Nature .
Here's a video of a one of those tours:

Never surf or SUPed in Porto, but went there in business trips. I would add:

- The scenery is magic
- The people are cool and relaxed
- Price of living is quite cheap
- The food is great, but the wines... the wines are worth the trip for themselves.
- Water seems quite safe (no sharks, snakes, killer jellyfishes...)

Only drawbacks:
- water is cold
- the spoken language is quite alien :-) But a lot of people speak english.

Hey Colas, you're absolutly right. You don't even need to surf or SUP to have a great time here. But the waves are very consistent and we have spots ideal for all levels. I'll be glad to show you around.
We had the best winter in more than 10 years, with back to back swells, warm days (many of them above 20? C) and most of the spots were pumping.

Thanks for the visit Supnorte... looks like a beautiful place to paddle.
It was fun watching the progression of the beginner on the blue board as the tour progressed... he was doing well by the end.
Interesting coastline... just toured it, thanks to google earth and you for giving me a google search and explore opportunity
