YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dave is spot on... There are people making way to much of this, &x22s;I'm the first or because of me we have this or that...&x22s; All BS that don't mean nothing... I been around for a while and I came up with some things that people enjoy... WHO CARES? Really?!! Who really cares? Just toys for us to play with... Well said Dave!!!

No worries about hiding this from PonoBill. He developed Dave's website and sometimes does some minor spell checking as the articles go up.

One thing is for certain, DK is doing us all a great favor with the stuff he posts.

I really must read Daves blog more often. He has some really useful and interesting stuff in there.

But your message is even better. It's about getting out there and having fun.

Follow the rules out in the waves and don't be a kook in that sense of the word, but otherwise, it is all really about getting your stoke in a wide range of conditions and regardless of what level you are at. I can have (almost) as much fun in knee high soft waves as in solid overhead conditions.

There have been a few (in my view) misguided ravings on this forum over recent days, but Blaine sums it up for me.

And while that is almost certainly true, it just comes across as oddly self serving to start out denying that anyone should get credit, then claiming credit.

I kind of wondered what people would think of this article. I do a little spell checking and grammar stuff on his posts, but he rarely asks what I think about them, but he did with this one because he wasn't sure he was getting the message across. What he was really trying to say was just what the title conveys--who cares. He really simply doesn't, and he's really kind of puzzled that some people seem to.

And what makes you guys think I don't read Seabreeze. Sheesh. Takes a lot more that that to get my panties in a knot, especially since I never wear skivvies.

Bill, I do appreciate Dave's blog and have nothing but respect for him. I just didn't get where he was coming from on this one. Maybe it's because I am out of the loop on all this credit jumping. This article was the first that I'd read about any debate over the originators of SUP or anyone claiming credit. So it just seemed like Dave was raising an issue that wasn't really an issue. Like I say, maybe it's because I don't have a clue what's going on over there on the little island (we are on the big island). Certainly, I agree with the last part, that we should all just enjoy ourselves on the water.

Not sure what prompted Dave to write his article but lately I have been hearing a couple people in the industry talking a bunch of crap about others regarding who contributed the most to this sport etc... Prompted by a book being written about the history of sup. Maybe he heard some of the BS being tossed around... One of the subjects when I was asked in my interview was WHO did the most for sup... I was told certain individuals were ranting hard about who deserved recognition for this or that AND who was FIRST... Ridiculous...

A while back I wrote something about the SUP Delusional Time Warp... I noticed people would add on a few years to the amount of time the were doing sup. It is like people want to be able to claim they have been doing it longer than each other... As if it makes you more important... Like Dave says... WHO CARES? Are you doing it now? Isn't that all that matters? All we're doing is playing in the water...

Guys... Seriously... The people in this sup industry are building a bunch of fargging toys... We are not finding the cure for cancer or solving any important issues to stop things like War, genocide etc... Toy builders. That's it. All I am is a toy maker. Thanks for the cool words about the slide show I posted...

BTW, the reason I started doing sup at all was a picture of Laird dropping into a solid wave about to pull into a barrel around the end of 2004 in a Longboard magazine... Not anything else... I never watched anyone do it other than a passing glimpse of someone at Waikiki many years earlier. So for me, Laird changed my life with that one wave in that one picture... I went from hating my job to enjoying toy making... Ha!

Blane, I think you seriously under value the role of the humble toy maker. They (and you) are far more important than you think. If we all spent more time playing with our toys, there would be no war or genocide, and I might add perhaps controversially, quite a good deal less cancer. Don't want to be getting too deep and meaningful here, but no matter what your spiritual bent, the purpose of life is to be happy. And I'd suggest you're doing a pretty decent job of spreading happiness in providing the toys.
