For those that have the quiver minus one , I'm after the purpose built rig for those special days.

Double overhead shack central [}:)] a board that just barely carries your weight with some paddle speed ,super pulled in nose and tail soft rocker marginal tail lift , smooth double concave.
What are your measurements , with your pulled nose to make those lunging pits and thin narrow tail to bring the board around before you are swallowed by the beast ..

I'm thinking 9-1 x 4-1/4 x 27.5 , tough board with a pulled in nose and tail but once you're on it will deliver you through sections we would not normally make.

Sub 9's definitely produce in performance but you need the length to chase the beast , what's your design specs.

Rob

P.S Goatmans Rig looks pretty nice

Thats the 12-0 mate a board to take on the tow in crew , I'm talking one those days you should be on your short board.

I'd like to see the Naish 8-10 stretched to suit the larger crew , I like those lines great looking rig. Plus I've had a whiff of the new Pro PSH's nice looking boards but I reckon I'm in between for a custom charger.

might look like one of these

I would go a little thinner than 4 1/4 maybe 3 5/8 and keep the wide point just forward of centre.

Hey Rob, funny you should mention it but I have been agonising over this one as well.

I downloaded AKU Shaper software and have been playing with some designs. At first I wanted something about 9' 4" x 27 1/2" but after finding the little Laguna going well in double overhead a few weeks back decided to drop it down to about 9' or 9' 1" as well.

I find the 8' 9" Laguna fine for paddling into the big slabby reef breaks around here but it would be nice to have a bit less tail width and less width in general as well as a touch more rocker. Admittedly this board would be a compromise for the big bombies we get occassionally as a 10'+ would be better for those I reckon. If ya lived in Sth west WA that would be a board you would use a lot!!

Anyways the final dimentions I came up with were a 9'1" x 27 1/4" x 4 1/2" pin tail that came in around 115 litres (similar volume to my Laguna I reckon).

I had to put the extra thickness in to get the volume up a bit as it would have a rolled deck and lower profile rails. The tail and nose are very thinned out as well so majority of thickness is under the balance point for paddling. I am 82/3 kilos BTW.

Anyways it has been fun playing with on a computer so will see what happens. The new PSHs that AA is getting his hands on look sic as well - hanging to demo one. Good luck with it.

PS I will be riding the Laguna for the normal stuff we get around here

The tail width is always the trade off for stability.... with each board I get made I pull them a bit more every time. I like your numbers , any chance of seeing your AKU shape.

Hilly what are the actual specs on the PSH's ?

double overhead burleigh, i'll probably be on my pushbike looking at it
seriously, those di's aren't that far off for me, a bit thinner . i feel getting the volume right on this board is the trick- it needs to be perfect for you for this type of board in those waves and might be hard to get it right first board. those psh's in hilly's picture really look the goods. chris garrets billy model is supposed to be a flier
cheers
ps what about a nice little swallow tail instead of a pin, still keeps that nice long line with a touch more in the tail

I'd go a bit wider and put the widtha bit forward of centre witha nice long drawn out pin to it, think a gerry lopez old school pipe board.....should get you in nice and early and the thin tail will hold in the slott nicely when you way back in the slot

Jeez where do you start there are so many coming out.

The production rippers (not wides) are 28 - 28 5/8 by 3 7/8 - 4 1/4. But if you look in the photo I posted of the custom rockets the second from right board looks really narrow. The new gun is 28 1/2 wide.

Custom 10er I have is 29 as is my Mano I am 105 kg and they are really stable and feel wide on a good size wave. I think you should go as narrow as possible 26 flat maybe the go. Some photos were posted on zone of sizable hookipa with one guy on a 23 inch wide board. www.standupzone.com/forum/index.php?topic=6006.0

Try some narrow boards see were the limit is.

hurry up goatie and get that board happenin

as we are keen to see how it goes being as short as youve said with the combo of thinned out nose and tail

and when its done make one for me too dtm

piros just scale down that big 12ft bitch but keep a bit of girth in it so it will float my keg for when i have a go

bring on the r'n'd on the pinned out tail boards guys as im keen to see what the f@rk you guys come up with

gotta get a rocket ship myself for the winter swells

so do the hard yards for us so we all can reap the spoils

Doggie this pin works well for the xxxl gentleman 10 x 29 x 4 1/4
if I was 85kg I would go 9 2 x 26 x 3 7/8

Hmmmmmm Hilly I also hear that a 10'6 version of the voldermort 12ft Gun is one the way??????

Any truth in that vicious rumour?

Come on Blane / AA spill the beans! You know you want to

Forgive me breezers for I have sinned, but my next board is going to be a flat water board / down wind board.

yeah goaties board is gunna be a ripper hes the man round here in over head waves and has been so for about the last 35years as hes an old bastard! yeah seriously his design is gunna work and work well i think the key will be the the correct nose and tail rocker and have the wide point slightly forward with a pulled in nose and tail and having it hand glassed you can get it super strong but still really light so goatie can spin the board round with ease and super quick when needed.
Ive just come back from a trip to PNG and was on a 28inch width normal board but the water surface was so smooth that i recon i could of easily been riding a 26inch board would love to have an indo gun type board at 26inchs for those perfect smooth days, which dont happen in sydney
i actually think you should get your normal boards measurments whatever they are and add about 4 inches or 5 inches to the length then narrow the width by about an inch to 3/4 of one and pull the tail in and then go surfing which is the key go surf it!

Sorta down the same lines, but a 9'10 x 29 x 4 1/4.
Single to double. Thinned the nose and tail out quite a bit. 115 lt.
Just waiting for some proper swell, but real fun in the smaller stuff
great minds must think a like.........

I actually don't know enough about surfing big waves on a sup so I wouldn't have the foggiest idea about a custom shape but would be putting my faith in the hands of my very experienced shaper to weave his magic. Since this topic started I have also been looking through the racks at what stock boards may do the job asked by piros and so far I think the boards that would come close for me for having a go at some serious surf would perhaps be a 9.6 or 10.0 Lopez Tuflite or maybe a Garrett (Billy special with a little bit more length).

OH YEAH - if Burleigh was DOH what would I be riding ?? I would be borrowing my mates F100 and be out looking for lacey on his push bike

As far as stock boards go the 9'3" ripper was great as a big wave board! I just want more rocker for the steep drops.
