Hi guys, looking for some advice on boards, currently riding a SB 9'0" converse and want to challenge myself and move down to a smaller board. I'm pretty light, sit at around about 75kg, I've had my eye on a JP 7'4" pro, was wondering if anyone had any experience with them, or any other tips on a good board for someone my size. Cheers
Hi I currently ride a 2015 jp 7 4 pro. They are an amazing board. Super light, strong and highly maneuverable. I also wanted to downsize and challenge myself from my starboard 9' pro which was to big and felt like a boat. After alot of research and at 72 kg I went for the jp because it was a board I would grow into and develop my sup surfing to the next level. At first it was a challenge to even standup on the thing but you can't grow without a challenge so I did alot of flat water paddling training. Now my surfing is much better for it. You will be amazed by the board. I also have a deep minnon 7' 2" × 27 1/4 @ 95 lt for chopper and windy days but its not as good as the jp. I would say go for it if but be prepared to do alot training but its worth it.
Hi,agree with the previous comments.
I have the 7.4 x 27 pro as well and it is my go to board on choppy day's.It is a great all rounder and pretty stable.
Good rocker, fast and turns really well.More a power turning board in my view than one that is super loose and slides.
It is going to be a big jump down for you and might be worth considering stepping down in size via something like the Starboard 7.4 x 28.5 airborne or a minnon / slate type board.....just a thought.
More power to you for pushing and challenging yourself. I've just done that with the 7.2 x 25 JP and it is a love hate relationship I have with it,but no pain no gain and on a clean wave it is another ball game.Smaller /narrower boards really open up SUP surfing, which is what the 7.4 with do for you.Good luck
