Has anyone tried this for a Sup.I have travelled alot with my Sups and am sick to death with the hassells of transport . Jetstar is max length 1.8m other airlines are OK but when you land the taxi is your next biggest problem along with hotel lifts.

I want to make a custom performance 8-11 2 piece any advice appreciated. These guys seem to have it wired for the mals and then even have a Ron house 3 piece Sup.

About a year back you were all over those inflatables. I remember you had some large family holiday in Qld and had a bunch of them and were banging on how good they are. I even recall a photo of granpa piros on one of them.

The two piece SUP's look sus to me. I had an inflatable for the same reasons reason, but it was kind of heavy and annoying to pump up. I find in most places, that, i've been too, you are able to hire SUPs pretty easily.

Thinking of which - I'm heading for a holiday in LA in October, going to drive around the Big Sur up to San Francisco and maybe up the coast to Seattle if I feel like it. Any suggestions for SUP hire there?

The Pope Bisect and Trisect boards have been around for well over a decade, something in the way they join together makes them as strong as a one piece. The cost on them is pretty OTT though.

I guess its a proven technology. The idea is absolutely first rate though, being able to take gear with you. Having said that I was in Maui last year and after renting gear over there I would never take anything with me. I can rent stuff and literally change it throughout the day. I was on the latest rrd and ezzy gear, but you could easily rent Naish, Cabrinha or any of the brands. I have been told that through europe you can pretty much just rent gear from shops and its always the current season stuff. I can't speak to mainland USA though.

There was a forum topic I came across about a year ago where someone paid for one and never received it and had all sort of hassles with an e-mail chain from Karl Pope about it all......do a google search and you'll come across it for sure.

It was very dodgy and from all accounts the guy did his $3k.

Auswind have 2 x 11'2 x 30 two piece one's on sale right now for $999 each (Star-board).....I'm not sure about them in waves of consequence though.

Yes Supanimal, they must be a bit suspect in solid waves.

Piros, I think Dean Snow & Woogie get their shafts from the same place, and there a 2 different diameter CARBON shafts that sleeve together perfectly. Could be the "back-bones" of your replica 2 piece board. Would be easy to add them onto some carbon flat plates.... then come up with a carbon bolting arrangement.

For an 8'11 / 9'0, I would also consider doing the join between 5'0 and 6'0, not in the middle.

The carbon shafts are so light, and so strong, I would consider doing 2 (a pair) of carbon shaft stringers.

Then you can fly J* into Melbourne Avalon, which is only 40-45 mins from Bells !!

there is a guy down here that is an agent for these, seen him ride it quite a bit in smaller surf, very fast board down the line like a very big mal, not the sort of board you could throw around.

We were in LA in
october a couple of years ago, there are a heap of places right up through Santa Barbara, but I didn't see much north of that.

Heading north via Big Sur I strongly recommend spending a night at Monterey before hitting SF. When we were there at the same time of year it was nice weather in LA but by the time we got to SF it got very cold - we then went onto NY and didn't see a temp above 10deg.

off topic, we are doing Legas to SF via Death Valley and Yosemite in March. I can't wait.
