That's Jean-Louis Colmas from New Caledonia, who helped Svein develop the very first Starboard back in 1994. He also invented using light-weight wood technology in boards around the same time.

He's been pretty active with Starboard ever since, so this prototype is probably very real.

The new 14' x 23' Ace is insane, would love to see what an 18 footer could do.

Starboard get all there unlimited SUP's made from SIC just look at Starboard team rider Connor Baxter. Yep be very interesting to see a Starboard 18ft SUP. Because I'm an Unlimited Fan.

Interesting please show me

Does the 18' board shown in the above vid look like a SIC board?

Starboard have been testing unlimited boards for ages that have nothing to do with SIC.

Scotty once said that they even chopped one in half to make it easier to get to Hawaii so once there they could put it back together for testing.

True.. The boards that Connor and other team riders are seen on and race are SIC boards with Starboad stickers but Starboard are constantly testing there own proto's.

You're FUNNY Like I said DJ Starboard Team Riders that ride Unlimted SUP's get shaped by SIC

And as DJ said, not ALL of them. Brian Szymanski shaped a couple of protos for the 2011 BOP distance race in California. Those were not SIC boards. Dan Gavere had a Starboard Unlimited proto at one stage - not a SIC board. The board in this video is yet another example, it's clearly not a SIC board. Then there's the K15 - a production board above 14' and therefore "Unlimited" yet it has absolutely no connection with SIC. The only connection between SIC and Starboard (*) is that Connor Baxter has an arrangement with Mark Raaphorst to use SIC boards in the Hawaiian distance races. When in Rome, etc. Possibly some other Starboard international team riders have used a SIC board in Hawaii but I am unaware of that happening.

Nevertheless, this board in this video looks like it's built for speed. If it is intended for production, I wonder if it will reach the market before the 18' Javelin.

(*) Edit - the other Starboard with SIC DNA was the "Point" from about 2008. It was a production board designed by Mark Raaphorst but released as a Starboard.

The 18 ace custom is built from a 14 ace blank extended to 18 with hollow carbon sandwich construction.

The first test here :

Very interesting. I take it this is a private project and nothing to do with Starboard?

After watching the vid a few times I like it.. I don't think it's just a chopped in half Ace with a bit added.. It might have an Ace like front but that's about it.. It looks very fast.. I like the letter box slots for water drainage and check out how far the rudder is from the tail of the board.. It looks more a flat water board but can't help but wonder how it would go catching ocean swells and downwinding.. Looks like it would fly.

Also interesting how big the fin is. Most unlimited boards or boards with rudders that I have seen have a relatively small fin.
