The waves yesterday were fun but it was sucky and I'd consider it pretty bumpy....certainly not glassy epic conditions.
The Whopper dealt with the cross currents and bump amazingly well and in the whole session, I did not fall off while waiting around between sets once which is damn good for me as I'm no pro.
I surfed this spot a few times on the 11' Laird (Ron House) last year a few times in similar conditions and could not get a handle on it at all (I think it was about 29 wide) and yes, being so wide you lose down the line speed and it might be an under performer for a lot of guys but for getting into some surf and 'riding' waves rather than just trying to retain an upright position, it really is a seriously impressive board.
It becomes a confidence thing and a board like the Whopper for the 100kg plus set get's you out there and enjoying it rather than worrying about all the variables....and that's the whole point isn't it ?
Whopper rocks - and the Carbon is super impressive IMO.
